1|HOW TO SUCCEED How to Succeed cast info General 1. You MUST register on VSM and fill out information including your home address, phone numbers, and an emergency contact by January. a. Post a current photo of yourself. b. No nicknames c. In the biography box, i. Girls—put your school’s name and your graduation year. ii. Boys—add your school ID number (just the 5 digits) iii. DO NOT PUT ANYTHING ELSE IN THE BIOGRAPHY BOX. d. At the tabs at the top of the page You MUST list an emergency contact number and person. WE WILL HAVE TO DROP YOU FROM THE PRODUCTION IF YOU DON’T HAVE THIS LISTED. email 2. Check your at least TWICE daily (morning and afternoon/evening).Parents on VSM: Your parents are welcome to enroll on VSM so they can see your rehearsal calendar. When they sign-up, they should put Parent as their first name. If their last name is different from yours, they should put your name in the bio box. 3. Tickets: Tickets for the show can be purchased directly from showtix4u.com starting February 1st. 4. You must agree to keep yourself in good physical and mental shape with lots of sleep, healthy food, and exercise. 5. To remain in the show, you and your parents must sign the agreement form on the next page and return it to Ms. Reisert by August 29th. 6. Academic Detention (St. X students): If you are put in Academic Detention because of poor grades for more than two weeks during the rehearsal period, you will probably be dropped from the show so you can concentrate on your academics. Rehearsals 1. It is your responsibility to show up at each rehearsal, ready to go. Always bring a. Your binder and/or script (if you weren’t assigned a script, bring a notebook in which to write your notes). b. A pencil for blocking c. An eraser for changed blocking 2. The rehearsal schedule will be posted on VSM. Check this every morning for changes. If you’re not sure whether or not you need to attend, check with a director. 2|HOW TO SUCCEED NOTE: If you use OUTLOOK, VSM can import your show schedule into OUTLOOK. Just click on SUBSCRIBE TO CALENDAR at the top of the page and follow those instructions. 3. You are expected to attend every scheduled rehearsal for your role. a. If you know ahead of time that you must miss a rehearsal, Enter your conflict on VSM (as soon as possible) AND Remind Ms. Reisert (by email) the day before (reisertr@saintxfac.com). You must also find someone to fill in for your part (and give that person your blocking). To enter a conflict on VSM: 1. Go to SCHEDULING 2. Find the CREATE CONFLICT tab at the top of the page. b. If you must miss because of a last minute emergency such as illness- Email Ms. Reisert at reisertr@saintxfac.com BEFORE rehearsal that afternoon If you can’t email her, phone Ms. Mary Clements at 637-4712 and leave a message to be delivered to Ms. Reisert. c. People who miss an excessive number of times may be dropped from the show, even if your absences are legitimate. d. Missing a rehearsal without notice will probably be grounds for being dropped from the show. e. If you quit the show after the first two weeks—or if you fail to fulfill your part to the best of your ability—in most cases, we will not allow you to participate in another St. X Drama extra-curricular activity for at least a year. If there are special circumstances, talk to a director as soon as possible. 4. Cast and crew members should be in the lobby only when passing through. The lobby is not a socializing area. 5. No eating or drinking in the auditorium, dressing rooms, or lobby. As long as you clean up after yourself, you may eat or drink in the shop. 6. Parking: Park in the side lot by the backstage barn doors (teacher lot). Do NOT park in the semi-circle in the front. 7. Getting picked up after rehearsal: You MUST be picked up in the circle in the back of the school. Do NOT have your ride pick you up in the semi-circle by the entrance to the auditorium. The only exception will be on days in which the temperature is below freezing. 8. If school is cancelled for weather, there will be no rehearsal that day. 3|HOW TO SUCCEED Girls: Girls should reach St. X as soon as is safely possible for rehearsal—do not speed or hurt anyone in the effort to get to rehearsal. Your safety is more important than a few seconds of start time. Rehearscore---singers only We pay hundreds of dollars to rent rehearscore so you can practice your vocals at home. To download rehearscore: 1. Email reisertr@saintxfac.com your email so Ms. Reisert can copy and paste it in the Dropbox folder for rehearscore. 2. Download rehearscore to your computer and install it. 3. Mr. Smith or Mr. Knoop will show you how to use it at your first vocal session. COSTUMES AND SCRIPTS Costumes 1. In January, you will be given a detailed costume sheet for your character. 2. St. X will rent costumes for Finch, Biggley, Bratt, Gatch, Bud, Rosemary, Smitty, Hedy, Womper, Twimble, Ovington, Krumholtz, Jones, TV Host, Executives, Policemen, and Executive Secretaries. You will be asked to furnish your own shoes (according to directions given by Ms. Moth.) 3. Secretaries: St. X will furnish your skirts. You will be asked to furnish a blouse, neck scarf, shoes, and other accessories according to our directions. 4. Office Boys: St. X will furnish your suspenders and bow ties. You will be asked to furnish a white dress shirt, navy blue dress pants, black socks, and shoes according to our directions. 5. Non-singing characters: You will furnish your basic costume pieces. We will give you more information about this after Christmas, but these will be things you already own or that you can find easily. 6. Shoes: You will almost certainly be asked to furnish your own shoes. 7. Label all costume pieces and shoes with your name. a. Rented costumes: pin a slip with your name on it to each costume piece. 8. Rented costumes: Deposit a. All people with rented costumes will give Mr. Smith a $75 check made payable to St. X (as a deposit for your costume). These checks should be made out to St. X. When you return your costume in good condition, your will receive the check back. If part of your costume is missing or damaged, you will forfeit your check. b. If you quit the show after we’ve rented your costume, you will forfeit you deposit in order to pay for the costume. Scripts 1. We rent the vocal books and scripts for musicals. Ms. Reisert will make available a sheet with line adjustments that you can cross-reference with your scripts. a. Use pencil ONLY to mark in your rented script. b. Make sure your name is on the rented script. 4|HOW TO SUCCEED c. If you lose your script, you will need to pay the fee charged by the rental company for the lost script. SHOWS 1. You are expected to take good care of your costumes and keep the backstage areas and dressing rooms clean. 2. You will furnish your own stage make-up. If you would like us to order a one-show stage make-up kit for you, bring a check for $14.00 made payable to St. X to Mr. Smith by March 1. 3. Before each show—including the grade school shows—you must agree to get at least 7 hours of sleep.
