Work with your US to set up the three-way conference ASAP (no later than end of second week). Know and abide by policies in the GSU student handbook. Be familiar with the GSU Administrative Policies related to Disruptive Student Conduct in the Classroom or Other Environment. See the Field Experiences Handbook for specific policies for dealing with problems that arise during the semester and procedures to be followed when a student fails the course. The handbook is located in your Resources document in LiveText. Students planning to graduate during the semester of student teaching must submit their program portfolio at least 4 weeks before the end of the semester. Students not graduating spring semester must submit their program portfolio to the appropriate program faculty two weeks before the end of the semester. Any student who has not submitted a complete portfolio by the last class day of the semester may receive a grade of Incomplete for student teaching. If a student finishes all coursework, but the portfolio evaluation process is not complete by the deadline in his/her final semester, the student may be required to enroll in an additional semester to complete the portfolio requirement. To receive teaching certificate by Fall 2013, you should have completed all certification requirements (including EXC 4020, EPY 7080, GACE exams, and your exit portfolio) by the end of spring semester. Check to be sure you take the correct GACE exams. The exam numbers are located on your program of study worksheets. Purposes: 1. Show how you use information about the learningteaching context and student individual differences to set learning goals and plan instruction and assessment. 2. Demonstrate the effects of your teaching on student learning. The TWS Assessment rubric will be used to assess student work. Check the rubric for each section of the TWS as you work through the project. Elements of the TWS are the same as the MTWS but more extensive. Read all instructions for TWS before you begin. Check the rubric for each element before submitting. Elements must be completed in the order assigned. Do not begin teaching the TWS unit until US approves your first four elements and you have completed the pre-assessment. Teach minimum of 10 lessons (consecutively, if possible). A few student teachers have been selected to participate in a pilot for the edTPA. Participants will complete the edTPA instead of the TWS. Assignments for the edTPA are very similar to TWS, but assessment rubrics are different. Workload for the edTPA is approximately the same as for TWS. The edTPA may eventually replace the TWS and will be assessed by outside evaluators. Four (4) weeks of detailed lesson plans for one class you are teaching (20 consecutive lessons, if possible) One of the lesson plans will include the requirements to fulfill the technology component assignment. See syllabus for details. Use the lesson plan format suggested by program faculty or university supervisor or school format (if approved by US). You will submit a reflection of the edited version of your digital recording. Additional instructions are in your syllabus and course template. Instructions for working with video recordings (compression, uploading, etc.) will be provided in Resources document. The GSU supervisor will observe your teaching at least three (3) times during the semester (2 times for Practicum I). You must submit electronic copies of the university supervisor’s observations in the appropriate sections of the course template. Reflection on overall experience for the semester See syllabus and course template for details. Student behavior and dispositions will be assessed by your university supervisor, using the rubric for this purpose https://c1.livetext.com/doc/6263328. Students do not need to submit any work for this assignment. Important note: Students who score lower than 80% on this assessment may not receive a passing grade for student teaching. In addition, they may not be recommended for certification. Points will be deducted for late assignments as follows: ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ 1-3 days after due date: minus 5% 4-7 days after due date: minus 10% 8-10 days after due date: minus 15% 11-14 days after due date: minus 20% 15 or more days late : no credit given for the assignment. Any extensions to the posted due dates must be approved in writing by the university supervisor BEFORE the due date posted in LiveText for the assignment. No assignments will be accepted after the last day of the field placement. Do not give students your personal email account. Assess students’ work PROMPTLY! Never wait longer than 1 week to assess student submissions. Report of program faculty if students are getting behind in assignments or having any other difficulties. Template set-up process has changed since Fall 2012. Send students to Mary Ariail if you are not sure how to help them. Do not accept any assignments as email attachments or as attachments to the course (must be inserted in course template or TWS template). University supervisors are invited to attend LT workshops on Feb.1 and April 15. Do not allow students to begin teaching lessons for the TWS until you have approved CLAD (first 4 components). If you have students participating in the edTPA, you will use a different course (MSIT edTPA – 9999) in LT to assess their performance. Their grade for the edTPA will be entered as their grade for the TWS. Extra instruction and time for discussion for the edTPA will be given at the seminars on Feb. 1 and April 15. Questions?
