Graduate students interested in Long Island University’s-Post Campus for the MS- Information Systems program must
have a clear understanding of the course content, focus and objectives of the program.
MS- Information Systems Program
The 36-credit Master of Science in Information Systems focuses on the integration of technology, people and strategy. It
is designed to provide Graduate students with the knowledge and skills to develop and manage sophisticated
information systems, as well as managing the people and processes involved in systems development. At the heart of
the degree program is the integration of technology into the business process. The knowledge and skills acquired in this
program will open career options in a wide range of fields and locations.
The MS-IS program’s focus is on taking a student’s undergraduate skills and knowledge in networks, database, objectoriented programming, analysis and design and operating systems and building on them so that the student can become
a team leader in an IS development environment. Such leaders require an increased awareness of how the
fundamentals “fit together” in analysis and developing Information Systems which add business value.
The program is well suited to students who want to change careers and/or gain marketable skills in a world that is
becoming increasingly more reliant on the computerized collection, processing, distribution and accessibility of
information.
Applicants must understand this is not a computer science degree program nor is “research” a part of the curriculum. In
addition, work within a computer science or information systems laboratory environment is not a part of this curriculum
as the program builds on undergraduate skills and, is not per se about the technology, but rather the consideration of
how technology takes part in building information systems. Students desiring a MS- Computer Science program should
not consider the MS- IS program at LIU-Post.
As an applicant for the MS-IS program, I understand I should have an undergraduate background in the following: Object
Oriented Programming, Systems Analysis and Design (including normalization and ERD modeling), Database
Fundamentals (including normalization and ERD modeling), Operating Systems, or Network Fundamentals.
By signing this agreement and attaching my essay, I understand and am aware of the focus of the MS- Information
Systems program that I am applying to at LIU-Post. Once signed, I acknowledge I have read this Supplemental
Application form and understand what is covered within the MS-IS program.
