Levine Middle College High School CEEB: 342526 About LMCHS Levine Middle College High School (LMCHS) is an honors-level, dual-enrollment middle college high school within the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) district. This unique high school is a part the CMS Middle College High School (MCHS) initiative where juniors and seniors are able to earn significant college credits while completing their high school diploma. LMCHS officially branched off from its sister-school, CATO Middle College High School (CMCHS), and opened its doors August 11, 2014 with 38 seniors and 65 juniors. It is located on Central Piedmont Community College’s Levine campus in Matthews, North Carolina. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Middle College High School Initiative CMS Middle College High Schools are located on the campus of Central Piedmont Community College and are part of the North Carolina Cooperative and Innovative High School Program. MCHS serves high school students in grades eleven and twelve and just added a grade thirteen option for current juniors and future students. Enrollment is capped at 100 students per grade level. Students enrolled in a MCHS take courses required for high school graduation while taking college courses towards a post-secondary certificate, college diploma, associate’s degree, and /or industry certification. All CPCC college courses and books are provided at no charge to MCHS students. Entrance requirements are: unweighted GPA of 2.5 or higher, passing scores on state examinations, demonstration of college readiness on Accuplacer, ACT or SAT assessments, and excellent attendance and conduct record. Curriculum MCHS is an honors-level middle college and offers only honors and AP courses to students. Students are expected to complete their required high school graduation requirements in honors and/or AP, and community college courses. Community college courses and honors level high school courses receive 1 extra quality point, while AP courses receive 2 extra quality points. Courses Offered AP: Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Environmental Science, U.S. History, English Language and Composition, English Literature and Composition, Physics B Honors: Algebra II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, English III, English IV, Chemistry, Physics, American History I & II Extracurricular Activities Offered MCHS does not offer athletics. Students are allowed to participate in athletics and marching band at their home schools. MCHS offers yearbook, National Honor Society, student government, and academic internships. Students may also participate in the community college’s extracurricular activities. High School Graduation Requirements English – 4 units; Math – 4 units (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and one math unit above Algebra II); Science – 3 units (Biology, Earth/Environmental Science, Physical Science); Social Studies – 4 units (World History, Civics & Economics, American History I, American History II); Foreign Language – 2 units; Health/PE – 1 unit; General electives – 8 units. Class Rank/GPA calculation Quality points are assigned on the basis of A=4 points; B=3 points; C=2 points; D=1 point; F=0 points. One additional quality point is added for honors and community college courses. Two additional quality points are added for Advanced Placement courses. The GPA is calculated by dividing the total quality points by the number of courses attempted. Credit and quality points are assigned at the conclusion of each semester. Class rank is according to descending weighted GPA. Grading Scale A = 93-100; B = 85-92; C = 77-84; D = 70-76; F = Below 70 CMCHS Awards, Honors, Recognition, Post-Secondary Institutions In 2013, 98 seniors won over $865,000 in scholarships. Ranked #207 out of the top 2000 high schools in Newsweek’s “America’s Best High Schools” publication. Was recognized as a “CMS Honors School of Excellence with High Growth” under the North Carolina ABC Accountability Model. Maintained a 100% graduation rate in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013. It is the only school in the district and one of a few dozen in the state to obtain this statistic. Charlotte magazine recognized CMCHS as the best public high school in the Charlotte area.
