DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT SERVICES For Reference Only CLASS CODE: 8415 PAY GRADE: 019 CLASS TITLE: FINGERPRINT ANALYST ALLOCATION FACTOR(S) This is work analyzing fingerprint data by making detailed visual comparisons of inked fingerprint images displayed on a microfilm reader or the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS). EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: (Note: The examples of work as listed in this class specification are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. The omission of specific statements does not preclude management from assigning specific duties not listed herein if such duties are a logical assignment to the position. Examples of work performed are not to be used for allocation purposes.) Encodes fingerprints into AFIS, conducts searches and verifies match reports. Analyzes name search results and determines need for additional name or fingerprint classification searches. Compares submitted fingerprint cards with hard copy fingerprint cards, microfilm or AFIS images of fingerprint records maintained by the department. Verifies identifications performed by other fingerprint personnel. Classifies fingerprint cards using the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), Henry and AFIS. Consolidates two or more fingerprint records on the same person into one criminal history record. Serves in a liaison capacity with law enforcement agencies on fingerprint identification matters. Analyzes fingerprint output data as a result of a search through AFIS. Enters and modifies inked fingerprints into AFIS. Presents expert testimony in courts of law. Performs related work as required. Knowledge of fingerprint identification, verification and classification techniques. 8415-FINGERPRINT ANALYST-CS Knowledge of the Henry, AFIS and NCIC systems of classifying fingerprints. Knowledge of the correct procedures of handling and preserving physical evidence. Knowledge of the correct procedures of handling and preserving physical evidence. Ability to block out and classify fingerprint cards. Ability to analyze and interpret fingerprint data. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments. Ability to communicate effectively. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A high school diploma or its equivalent and 2 years of experience in a criminal justice agency and completion of the Fingerprint Analyst Trainee Program; or Completion of an approved course in the science of fingerprinting and one year of fingerprint identification experience. College education from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours for each year of the required experience in a criminal justice agency. Vocational/technical training in a law enforcement or criminal justice agency can substitute for the required experience at the rate of 720 classroom hours per year.
