Content Overview:
Bienvenue au niveau quatre! This year we will complete an extensive and broad grammar review as well as introduce the passé simple, futur anterior, and conditionnel passé verb tenses. The year will be divided into eight different units that will highlight a different francophone culture topic as well as grammatical content. Within each unit, students will read different selections (poems, articles, passages, etc.), listen/view different media, produce a writing sample (story, essay, poem, etc.), complete workbook activities, give an oral presentation (individual or group presentation, read aloud, skits, etc.), and complete quizzes and/or a test. Students will be evaluated based on their fulfillment of the unit expectations as well as their grasp of the “5 C’s” (see below). This should be a very exciting year and a real chance for the students to showcase their skills in a variety of ways!
The “5 C’s” (ACTFL Standards for Foreign Language Learning in the 21st Century):
Communication - communicate in languages other than English
Cultures - gain knowledge and understanding of other cultures
Connections - connect with other disciplines and acquire information
Comparisons - develop insight into the nature of language and culture
Communities - participate in multilingual communities at home and around the world
Classroom Expectations:
As a general rule, you should always come to class on-time and prepared and respect your materials, peers and teacher. Students are also expected to speak in French as much as possible. I encourage flexibility and a positive attitude – we are all going to make mistakes and occasionally sound funny as we’re learning a new language – it’s normal! Let’s encourage each other! Participation and active engagement in activities is also essential for success. Note: Absolutely NO ONLINE TRANSLATORS are permitted for use on any and all assignments.
