of speaking and learning how to use grammar in a communicative context. Homework
consists of studying assigned sections in the text, preparing written exercises in the
Activities Manual, listening to the Audio CD exercise and exploring CD-Rom activities.

Consistent attendance is essential when learning a foreign language. We have our
morning long weekly meeting which provides opportunity for speaking, listening, writing
and reading, including reinforcement of what has been introduced, new material and
clarification of any questions which might arise. The course is extremely interactive and as
such you will be expected to participate actively in class as well as engage yourself
thoroughly with the material assigned outside of class. Late work is not accepted. Makeups (of in class exams) are not allowed, except in extenuating circumstances. If you must be
absent for such an exam please see me in advance to schedule a make-up. Please bring
your textbook to each class meeting. Maintain patience with yourself and others. Be
responsible for you own learning: memorize verb charts, vocabulary and grammar rules
outside of class time. Speak in French as much as possible during class time –this includes
asking questions and chatting with other students. Do not be afraid to speak to
yourself in French as you walk about or drive.
TUTORING;
For specific questions or help on homework see our French resident tutor. Consult the
French Dept. website link “hours and location” for her hours:

DISABILITIES:
Students with disabilities should see me & the O’Neill Center (651) 690-6563 for help
and information about available resources at SCU.
NOTE: any proof of Academic Dishonesty – copying answers from the key; letting another
student do your work – is obvious to instructors and has very serious consequences.
(according to SCU Le Guide on-line).
