CHARACTERISTICS OF A GIFTED SERVANT(Romans 12:6-8/ Mark 10:43-45) I.INTRODUCTION: NOT EVERY CHRISTIAN IS A PASTOR BUT EVERY BELIEVER IS CALLED INTO MINISTRY (TO SERVE). A CHURCH WILL NEVER BE ANY STRONGER THAN ITS CORE OF LAY MINISTERS (SERVERS). • PASTORS, DON’T MAKE STRONG CHURCHES, THEY EQUIP THEM. • BUILDINGS, DON’T MAKE STRONG CHURCHES, THEY HOUSE THEM. • MEMBERSHIP DON’T CREATE STRONG CHURCHES THEY JUST BRING NUMBERS(TITHERS NOT MEMEBERSHIP- PTR. NANDING) BUT A STRONG MATURE CHURCHES ARE BORN WHEN THE PEOPLE OF THE CHURCH REALIZE WHAT REAL BIBLICAL MINISTRY IS AND CHOOSE TO ACCEPT GODS CALLING TO ENGAGE IN IT…INVOLVEMENT OF MEMBERS IS THE KEY WORD…(10-30% ONLY) II.CHARACTERISTICS OF A GIFTED SERVANT (M.O.T.H.E.R.S.)…A TRIBUTE TO ALL MOTHERS M = MOTIVATED BY THE WORD OF GOD “ Sinasabi ko sa inyo, ng gawin ninyo ito sa pinakahamak sa mga kapatid kung ito,ito ay sa akin ninyo ginawa.”- Mateo 25:40 ‘Sinumang magbigay na kahit isang basong tubig…”-Mateo 10:42 M = MEETING THE NEEEDS OF THE SAINTS OF GOD ( PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL, SPIRITUAL) AND TO REVEAL GOD’S GLORY TO ALL WHO SEE THIS WORK IS BEING DONE. = MOTIVATED NOT BY LAW OR PRESSURE OR EXPECTATIONS OR REWARDS BUT BY LOVE FOR GOD AND THE PEOPLE SHE SERVES. ***NOTE: SEE AND MEET PRACTICAL NEEDS :Phil. 2:21-22 They look for opportunities to serve others “ Matalas ang pakiramdam at naggagawad ng mga pangunahing pangangailangan ng iba” ***The gifted servant has an ability to see practical needs in people’s lives and has a desire to meet those needs. Important needs that would seem insignificant to others, catch the eye and attention of the server. They can spot a need a mile away. These needs are usually physical; however, the server knows that by meeting those needs … …they will bring encouragement and strength to those who receive help. ***NOTE: Quickness in meeting needs may cause a server to appear “pushy or intrusive.” (mapangahas, mapakialam, mautos, nagbubuyo)…A server will put extra touches to his jobs. They’ll go the second mile and do more than is expected. O = ONE OF A KIND … 1. CREATED FOR MINISTRY (NILALANG) EPH. 2:10 2. CALLED TO MINISTRY(HINIRANG-PINILI) 1 PETER 2:9-10 3. GIFTED FOR MINISTRY 1 PETER 4:10 O = OWNERSHIP, AVOIDING DELEGATION 1. ACCOUNTABLE FOR MINISTRY ROM 14:7 “WALANG NABUBUHAY PARA SA SARILI LAMANG? 2. AUTHORIZED FOR MINISTRY MAT.28:18-20 3. TAKING CARE OF ITS OWN. IT’S A FAMILY BUSINESS. NOT DEFENDING ON OTHERS 1 TIM 5:8 …”Ang sinumang hindi kumakaling sa kanyang kamag-anak…” IT IS THE CHURCH FAMILY TAKING CARE OF ITS OWN, WORKING TOGETHER, GROWING TOGETHER AND HELPING EACH OTHER AS NEEDS ARISE >T= TENACITY (Disregard for Weariness)ISAIAS 40:31 “ Those who trust in the Lord, will find their stenght renewed, They will rise on wings like eagles, they will run and not get weary , they will walk and not grow weak.”…“Hindi alintana ang pagod at hirap”- Mother Teresa ***Because the server sees the importance of the tasks which they’ve begun: 1.They’ll freely use up (invest) their own personal assets of time, money and strength. 2.They’ll work beyond physical limits sometimes resulting in physical problems. They’ll just go and go and go (contemplative sisters of Mt Carmel). And in doing so, the server has a tendency to overlook personal health and comfort in serving others. 3.Their focus is not on oneself, but rather on the completion of the tasks which they know will benefit the individual and bring joy to themselves. *** NOTE:Their disregard for personal needs may even extend to their own family’s needs. H = HAPPINESS IN SERVING “ I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. 13 That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God.” ECCL. 3:12-13 1. Acts 19:21-22 … happiness on following orders from a leader and love being a support personnel. 2. 1 Cor. 16:10 …. have an inner joy serving others. 3. Phil. 2:20 ….are fulfilled while serving others. E = MINISTERS OF ENCOURAGEMENT (FREEING OTHERS TO ACHIEVE) The joy of the server is not just in initiating tasks, but knowing that through their service they’re bringing a peace of mind to another person which will allow that person to be more productive in the tasks which God has called them to do. It gives them pleasure to free others to do more important things, not just to keep busy. Even though, they tend to feel inadequate and unqualified for spiritual leadership. NOTE: Timothy served Paul so that Paul could carry out his ministry.(The Election of the 7 Deacons in the Church so the Apostles can focus on preaching- Acts 6 ) E = MINISTERS IN EVANGELISM...(Matthew 4:4, man can’t live by bread alone but by every words that comes from the mouth of God) 1. They not only provide things for the physical need of others but they lead others to Christ .(Matthew 4:4) 2. They Begin by being hospitable, offering acts of kindness and service 3. At the very least, they invite people , bring their families to services, teach how to pray. The first AMA NAMEN, 4. They hone their skills in personal evangelism, seek to improve their ability to share the gospel E = MINESTERS OF EDIFICATION...Romans 14:19 “Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification” 1. They begin by being present at every service, greeting every one present 2. They take special interest in those who are new, encourage them 3. They offer to help teach our children, even if it only means to assist another teacher 4. They volunteer whatever service they can render in the work and worship of the church R = MINISTERS OF RECONCILLATION 2 COR. 5:18, ”Ang Diyos ang gumawa ng lahat ng ito .Sa pamamagitan ni Cristo , ibinilang niya akong kaibigan – di na kaaway- at hinirang Niya ako upang panumbalikin sa Kanya ang mga tao.” 1. BIBLICAL MINISTERS -- THEY BRINGING TOGETHER BELIEVERS WHO HAVE HAD CONFLICT WITH EACH OTHER…GAL. 6:1-2”Kung may mahulog sa pagkakasala kayong pinapatnubayan ngEspiritu ang magtuwid sa KANYA.. MAG-INGAT..HINAHON ..BAKA KAYOA NG MAHULOG.. 2. BIBLICAL MISSIONARIES -- THEYBRINGING TOGETHER SINFUL PEOPLE WITH GOD WHO OFFERS THEM FORGIVENESS AND LOVE. *** NOTE: MINISTERS IN THE CHURCH GIVES LIFE TO THE BODY…IT IS TO BE LIKE JESUS …IT HEALS WOUNDS…IT IS GOD’S LOVE IN ACTION… …IT IS INCLUSIVE TO ALL CHRISTIANS, NOT JUST OUR CHURCH S = SAVED FOR MINISTRY 2 TIM. 1:9 . = SERVICE TO OTHERS ABOVE ONESELF. REAL MINISTRY IS SERVICE TO OTHERS = MINISTERS OF SPIRITUAL GIFTS. ROM. 12 THE MAIN FOCUS OF THEIR MINISTRIES IS TO BUILD AND STRENGTHEN THE CHURCH FOR GOD’S KINGDOM AND GLORY…EVERY CHRISTIAN IS A SPIRITUALLY GIFTED MINISTER AND HAS A SERVICE TO PERFORM. S = SHORT- TERM PROJECTS (ROUTINE) “Mas gusto niya ang mga gawaing madaling matapos” 1. The tasks which attract mothers are usually immediate needs. They prefer short-term projects. Therefore, the mother often becomes frustrated with long-range responsibilities or a continuous task which seems to have no immediate or visible progress. MAINIPIN 2. The mothers also desires clear direction. And sometimes mothers prefer working with a person or group rather than alone. In fact, put them in a group and they’ll out work everybody, but don’t leave them by themselves. CONCLUSION “Whoever wants to be great must become a servant.” Mark 10:43 …The world defines greatness in terms of power, possessions, prestige, and position. If you can demand service from others, you've arrived. In our self-serving culture with its me-first mentality, acting like a servant is not a popular concept. … Jesus, however, measured greatness in terms of service, not status. …. God determines your greatness by how many people you serve, not how many people serve you 1. The important thing is that we be people of service... a. People who serve others, not just benefiting from the efforts of others b. People who are producers, not just consumers 2. Serving is not just the path to greatness in the kingdom, but also to true happiness: 3.REWARDED COL 3:23-24 /MAT. 25:21 “ Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving .” "His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!' 4.REMEMBER "I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'" – Acts 20:35 REF: MARK A.
