The site lists links for interactive math lessons from grades Pre-K – 12. The site supplies many interactive links to a variety of mathematics skills for students to practice. The site is organized by mathematical domains. The site offers 300 ideas for celebrations of the 100th day of school. • The teacher could do some of these activities. Parents could choose a couple to do at home with their children to reinforce concepts learned at school. • A school could have each classroom to choose an idea or a classroom could do a variety of these activities with groups of students and have them present their projects. • • • http://illuminations.nctm.org/ This site is a site that concentrates on mathematics for preK-12 students. The site posts the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) standards for teachers and administrators to view. This helps teachers and administrators to see if their local or state standards match closely to the national standards. The site has a library that contains activities that actively engage the students. The site has web links that are reviewed by an editorial panel. The home page always has a highlighted activity and a lesson that changes from time to time. The site also has lesson plans that are practical to use in the classroom. The lesson plan site has a unit overview along with an overview of all of the lessons that go along with the unit. The lessons address mathematics in an authentic way. All of the supportive material connected to the lesson is posted with the lesson so that it can be used just as it is presented. The site is organized by domain headings. There are many links under each heading. The links are interactive and engaging. Teachers could assign students to certain areas within the site based on their areas of weakness in math. The site can also be used at home for additional practice. They are organized in alphabetical order and can be used at any grade level. • http://edtech.suhsd.k12.ca.us/PD/Docs/ActPriKno.doc This site contains a great graphic organizer for the teacher to offer suggestions and ideas for what needs to be happening before, during, and after a reading selection. If there are external links (links that go to other sites), follow them to make sure they are appropriate for your students. Build excitement around the virtual field trip. Like a regular field trip, students should look forward to visiting the exhibition. Prepare students with background information about the subject area, including key vocabulary and concepts. Provide goals for students to reach while on the field trip. If computers are limited, divide students into groups and have them complete a treasure hunt. Provide activities that engage students and extend learning. Create follow-up activities that students must complete after they have left the exhibit.
