Jesus Christ and the Everlasting Gospel
The reason for the changes?
Jesus Christ and the Everlasting Gospel
We need to ask an important question that is essential to
this course:
Jesus Christ and the Everlasting Gospel
Whom do we worship?
Jesus Christ and the Everlasting Gospel
Let’s look at the following verses of scripture:
John 14:6
I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the
Father, but by me.
D&C 18: 40
And you shall fall down and worship the Father in my name.
Jesus Christ and the Everlasting Gospel
D&C 20:17-19, 29
17 By these things we know that there is a God in heaven . . .
18 And that he created man, male and female, after his own . . .
19 And gave unto them commandments that they should love and
serve him, the only living and true God, and that he should be the
only being whom they should worship. . .
29 And we know that all men must repent and believe on the name
of Jesus Christ, and worship the Father in his name, and endure in
faith on his name to the end, or they cannot be saved in the
kingdom of God.
Jesus Christ and the Everlasting Gospel
The following scriptural references repeat the truth that we are to
worship the Father in the name of Christ: 2 Ne. 25:16; Jac. 4:5;
Moses 1:17; Matt. 4:10 John 4:23.

Boyd K. Packer (1924-2015) of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
confirmed this truth: “Across the world, those who now come by the
tens of thousands will inevitably come as a flood to where the family
is safe. Here they will worship the Father in the name of Christ, by
the gift of the Holy Ghost, and know that the gospel is the great plan
of happiness, of redemption.” (Ensign, May 1994, p. 21)
Jesus Christ and the Everlasting Gospel
A more important confirmation was given by the First Presidency (Joseph F. Smith
Pres., 1912) in a statement entitled, “Only One God to Worship,” with this conclusion:
“It should be remembered that it was Christ before he was in the flesh who gave the
law and the commandments to Moses, and who spoke for the Father, as He
explained to the Nephites when he appeared to them after his resurrection. (3 Nephi
15:5.) He "was in the beginning with God and was God," according to John 1:1. The
Father was represented by Him and He acted and spoke for the Father, in the
creation and from that time forward in all the divine dispensations. . . But the sole
object of worship, God the Eternal Father, stands supreme and alone, and it is in the
name of the Only Begotten that we thus approach Him, as Christ taught
always.” (Messages of the First Presidency, 6 Vols.,4:269-271)
Jesus Christ and the Everlasting Gospel
It is clear from the previous teachings that the object
of our worship is Heavenly Father. Further, the
means by which we may approach him, that we can
become as He is, is in “the name” of Jesus Christ.
