The Wheaton Passage Catalog Description: “CE 131: Introduction to Spiritual Formation” provides for the self-evaluation of personal faith and character, and opportunities for expressing a greater commitment to life in Christ. This course runs each August and is specifically designed to equip incoming Wheaton College students for effective navigation of the college years. Students will participate in a small group doing a variety of camp activities and having discussion times together. A Wheaton College faculty member will join each small group at HoneyRock to guide the transition back to the main campus. The main focus areas of the course are life of the mind, community, spiritual formation, and service. This course is open to incoming students who have been accepted to Wheaton College. Contents include one book and a course workbook (see below for details). Students will also do a final written presentation. Along with the 1-2 weeks of residential camp, urban or wilderness trip experience at HoneyRock, students must attend two small group meetings in the fall on campus. This course is offered for 2 semester credits in Christian Formation and Ministry. Pre-Course study and readings: You are required to purchase Embracing the Love of God by James Bryan Smith (either edition is fine) and the Wheaton Passage Workbook. Both books can be purchased at the Wheaton College Bookstore. The workbook contains a course syllabus, a reading guide for Embracing the Love of God, articles and reading guides for each course theme, and assignments for the fall semester. You must read the book and complete all the readings in the Wheaton Passage Workbook prior to arrival at HoneyRock. You also must answer all the questions in the reading guides (everything up to Fall session #1).
