The United States is in North America. It
is made up of 50 states. Forty-eight of
those states are contiguous. Alaska and
Hawaii are not contiguous. The country is
divided into to four geographic regions.
The Northeast is the smallest in size but
the largest in population. The South is a
popular vacation destination. The MidWest is the farming center of the U.S..
The Rocky Mountains are a major
landform in the West Region.

1) Before Christopher Columbus and other
Europeans arrived in the Americas in 1492,
there were about 1 million Native Americans
living here.
2) Over the next two hundred years Europeans
migrated to North America.
3) By 1700, England had set up 13 colonies along

and Indian War.

democracy because the goals of the
government are laid out in the
Constitution. It is also a representative
democracy because its citizens elect
people to make laws and decisions for
