New Providence Middle School PTO Meeting Minutes Tuesday, March 24, 2015 Board Members Present: Sherry Flaherty, Aileen Ping, and Mr. Hough. General Members Present: 4 Meeting Called to Order at 1:35 p.m. by Sherry Flaherty Pledge of Allegiance Minutes from January 20, 2015; put to vote and approved. Treasurer’s Report(submitted notes from Nadine Geoffroy) Report is from December 31, 2014 through February 28, 2015 Balance as of 12/31/14 was $15,543.20 Cash inflows for the period was $185 - mainly from Box Tops and Contributions. Cash Outflows were $378 - mainly from Spirit wear. Register balance of $15,351 as of Feb 28, 2015. Bank balance as of Feb 28, 2015 is $15,851 Outstanding check for $500 for the Teen Arts Festival Correspondence Report(submitted notes from Evelyn Minolfo) Thank you note sent to Mrs. Hatfield for giving a presentation on the Language Arts component of PARCC testing during the January 20, 2015 NMPS Meeting. Teacher Speaker (Susan Rembetsy – Math K-12) PARCC Testing – Mathematics Performance-Based Assessment (PBA) 2 Units of Testing 3 types of Tasks Some Questions Interactive Non-Calculator and Calculator Components Reference Sheets Provided 75% of Content for Year Type 1 Tasks: Tasks assessing concepts, skills, and procedures Balance of conceptual understanding, fluency, andapplication Can involve any or all mathematical practice standards NPMS PTO Meeting Minutes – 03/24/15 Page 2 of 3 Machine Scorable, within computer based format Will also appear on the End of Year Assessment Type II Tasks: Tasks assessing expression ofmathematical reasoning Each task calls for written arguments/justifications,critique of reasoning, or a precision in mathematicalstatements (MP.3, 6) Can involve other mathematical practice standards aswell May include a mix of machine scored and hand scores responses End-of-Year Assessment (EOY) This will be administered after approximately90% of the instructional year is completed and will include: Machine score-able type I tasks Two Units Will also have non-calculator and calculatorcomponents Will have a reference sheet available NJ ASK & HSPA Grade Level Based Individual questions Written responses are short. Limited to Oneor two sentences. Mostly Aligned to Common Core PARCC Course/grade level based Multiple part questions More emphasis on the Math Practices 100% aligned to Common Core Principal’s Report (Mr. Hough) Recent PARCC testing overall went smoothly with minimal technical issues. The students did not seem overwhelmed and put forth great effort. The split schedule (a.m. and p.m. sessions) also proved to be successful. The End of Year assessment (EOY) will consist of three days of testing: Day 1 (2 ELA 60 minutes each) and Days 2 and 3 (mathematics). COMMITTEE REPORTS Fundraising Box Tops(Sherry Flaherty) The January/February Box Tops Contest winners were the Orange team. Coppola’s will generously donate pizza to the winners at a later date. NPMS PTO Meeting Minutes – 03/24/15 Page 3 of 3 $174.80 was collected in Box Tops. For the year we have a profit of $275.00. Volunteers(Sherry Flaherty) Two parents have graciously volunteered to chair the 8th Grade Promotion Dance, Robin LoRe and Julie Arts. The following chair positions remain open: President – 2015/16 Corresponding Secretary – 2015/16 Other Business - BOE Liaison(Donna Zane) Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Remote drop off maps were presented and discussed with NP Police and Council Walk/bike assessments to go home via email Police will be monitoring the drop off situation Idea for painting the curbs (proposed color would be green) for drop off/pick-up locations was presented Bike racks needed to accommodate students biking to/from school Parent Forum on Wednesday, April 29th at 7 p.m. in Chorus Room. The topic for the evening is “Helping Your Teen Develop Healthy Coping Skills for Life / Real Tips for positive Coping & Successful Parenting”. More information to follow in the upcoming Friday Folder. The meeting was adjourned at 2:40 p.m.
