Diversity Programs
• Helpful or harmful?
– As public awareness increases so does the number of
programs initiated
• Oversimplification of the issue can intensify existing
problems
– Example: We “encourage” firms to hire more minorities
• Result: Discrimination against majority members
The Challenge
• To create justice and respect between
groups of people and between individuals
at a time when global migrations have
intensified and new community situations
have emerged.
• Teach people how to work together
Objectives
• Address issues of labor market
discrimination
• Examine the economic and societal impacts
of differential treatment
• Address views from individual,
organizational, and societal levels
• Evaluate public policies created to “help”
these societal problems
Attendance Policy
Two phrases to live by:
I.
If you don’t want to be here…we don’t want
you here
II. If you don’t plan on staying the entire
time…don’t come
