IB Speak Glossary IB Speak • IA – Internal Assessment: Assessment completed in the school and submitted to IB for moderation. Usually about 20% of Final IB grade • External Assessment: Assessment marked by IB. New York – soon to be in Virginia Buenos Aires and Vancouver are the regional Offices for IBA IB Speak • Certificate Candidates: Students registered in IB Program, but not taking all the requirements for the IB Diploma • Diploma Candidates: Students registered in their final year of the program taking all the requirements for the IB Diploma. • Anticipated Candidates: Students registered in their first year of the program and expecting to take all the requirements for the IB Diploma. IB Speak • Higher Level (HL): Courses offered in more depth and at a higher degree of difficulty -240 hours • Standard Level (SL): Courses offered in less depth - 150 hours • ab initio: Introductory language level IB Speak • • • • CAS: Creativity, Action, Service EE: Extended Essay ToK: Theory of Knowledge Moderation: A process by which an IB Examiner checks assessed work to ensure that standards and criterion are being applied correctly and consistently.
