Resources to Help Prepare for the SOLs (All of these resources are listed on my website under the link “SOL Review Resources.”) 1) Archived Released SOL Tests http://www.doe.virginia.gov/testing/sol/released_tests/archive.shtml This site contains released SOL tests from the Virginia Department of Education for each subject area. The tests appear in the paper and pencil version of the test. For each subject area, other than Virginia Studies, one can find multiple tests represented for fourth grade. There is only one test listed on this website for Virginia Studies. 2) Online Version of Released SOL Tests http://www.doe.virginia.gov/testing/sol/released_tests This site contains one released SOL test from the Virginia Department of Education per subject area and shows images of the test items as they appeared in an online test format. It is helpful, especially for the subject of reading, to prepare the students for the format in which the questions will appear. If the student chooses to take the online version of the test, it will allow them to manipulate all of the tools that are available to them during a regularly scheduled SOL test. The only subject area where this is not available in the online version is Virginia Studies. However, they will still benefit from taking the PDF version of this test to get used to the format in which the questions appear. 3) SOL Teacher https://sites.google.com/a/solteacher.com/olteacher-com/home/4th-grade SOL Teacher provides teacher worksheets, technology, and activities that correlate to the Virginia Standards of Learning. It offers review materials for all subject areas. Each subject area is broken down by SOL number which is extremely helpful because it allows the students to focus in on those SOL objectives they might need to strengthen. 4) Tami Maloney http://www.iq.poquoson.org/socialstudies.htm#four http://www.iq.poquoson.org/math.htm http://www.iq.poquoson.org/languagearts.htm This site provides students with questions from released SOL tests. Please refer to the later part of the website address to determine which subject area it links to. 5) Jefferson Lab http://education.jlab.org/solquiz This site is a wonderful resource for extra Math practice. It allows the students to choose how many questions they would like to practice. It also allows them to select additional options (the year a test was released, the strand [number sense, computation and estimation, measurement and geometry, or probability, statistics, patterns, functions, and algebra] they would like to work on. All of the questions are from previously released SOL tests. For each question, the correct answer is provided after the student submits his or her answer. 6) Sheppard Software http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/math.htm This site serves as a fun and entertaining, as well as educational, way of reviewing various math concepts by topic. The students can choose from a variety of games to help strengthen those math concepts they might need a little extra work on. 7) SOL Pass http://www.solpass.org/elementary.html This site is a phenomenal resource to help prepare for the Virginia Studies SOL. This is a fantastic resource that can easily be hung on your refrigerator for quick and easy access of a wonderful review of all of the Virginia Studies SOL objectives. 9) Virginia Studies SOL Review Packet Due to copyright laws, I am not able to post this review packet on my website.
