Independent Study Points Quarter One Due: Friday, October 17th This cover sheet must accompany all of your ISP materials. Everything must be done by the time class begins October 17th. You must complete 150 points from at least two categories to receive an ‘A’. You are expected to submit typed, proofread, high quality writing. Full credit will not be given to shoddy work. Aim for each written piece to be a page and a half (double spaced, one inch margins, size 12 standard fonts). Have fun Category One: Film Study 1) Supplemental Film Analysis: View one of the films related to our study. Analyze and identify similarities that exist in the films treatment of the work studied in class or the use of similar techniques. Use specific examples from both the text and film to support your position. Wide Sargasso Sea Film: ’93 or ’06 Versions (some adult content so have your parents initial here ________) Devil in the White City Film: Any film featuring a similar character to H.H.Holmes 2) AP Movie Night: The Lion King Foster-Based Analysis: Come and watch the movie and analyze the film through the lens of literary analysis and criticism. 3) AP Booklist Film Study: Complete the AP Booklist option of ISP (#10). In addition, in order to receive an extra 25 points you may view a film adaptation or a thematically similar film and write a novel-film comparison where you analyze the choices made by the screen writer and director. Category Two: Arts & Culture Enrichment 4) Orlando Museum of Arts; First Thursday Events; $10: View the featured exhibits at the Orlando Museum of Art and chat with the attendees and featured artist about the works. Write a description of two of the pieces, your impression of the meaning of the works, and any commentary the artist will provide about his/her inspiration or intentions. (This prompt may also be adapted to any museum visit.) /50 /50 /25 /50 Eclectic Knights VI: September 4, 2014 | This is the 6th annual event for the UCF Visual Arts and Design Alumni Chapter. The show features selected works created by UCF Alumni and Faculty in a variety of media. What’s Urban Art?: October 2, 2014 | Art that is made for the public domain…urban art, street art, graffiti…what’s the difference. Is it outside, was it on a wall or is it a sculpture made for a public place. 5) 6) 7) 8) Theatre Event: Attend a professional or high school theatre production. Write a review of the play including an analysis of at least two elements of literature we have studied. The Orlando Philharmonic or Ballet: Attend one of the Orlando Philharmonic or Orlando Ballet performances. Write a reflection about the experience of attending a live professional music and/or dance event and discuss the ability of the music/dance to influence the listener and tell a story. Art on the Big Screen: Enzian or other Local Cinema: Attend one of the ballet, opera, or national theatre live screening events. Write a narrative reflection about both your reaction to the work seen and your experience attending the event. Information about dates can be found online at www.enzian.org and http://www.fathomevents.com. Art Festivals; Cultural Events; Educational Enrichment Events: Attend an area event with preapproval. For this event, you will want participate and interact then write a narrative where you describe the experience. Include specific sensory details and make me feel like I am in the event with you. Category Three: Supplemental Reading & Writing 9) AP Booklist: Read any of the books from the list (online and on bulletin board) and meet with me outside of class to discuss it. You can do this after school or during lunch by appointment. You should bring the book with you and have some points to make about why this book is on the AP list. You are expected to complete the book before the conference. If you are unable to provide details about your reading, no credit will be given for this option. You MUST schedule your conference by December 13th in order to complete this option. Failure to schedule conference in time will result in having to write a three page essay in order to gain credit. 10) AP Booklist Annotations or Quick Study Sheet (see WIKI for categories): In order to receive 25 extra points you may annotate the text you are reading or create an AP Quick Study sheet for the work. 11) Chat & Chew: The Chat and Chew sessions this year are being sponsored by different clubs and organizations on campus. Many of the texts they have selected are AP worthy. You MUST have read the book before attending the event. While attending the event you must take notes during the discussion then write a reflection on what you contributed to discussion. Attach your notes and reflection to ISP. You may attend either of the following sessions (Books are available in E-102) Schedule to be posted soon 12) AP Writing: Select a prompt from the extra credit essay list. Write the essay.
