Cherokees lived in an interesting place. They live in the South East. They lived in the states Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Other tribes other then the Cherokees lived in this area too. There were lots of forests around this area. There were also lots of animals such as raccoons, wolves, mountain lions, deer, bison, and lots others like birds. So I feel that the Cherokees lived in a pretty good place. Back to Table of Photo Credit: Image Quest.com What Food Did The Cherokees Eat? Would you always want to eat animals? I wouldn`t, but the Cherokees did. Since the men did the hunting they hunted and fished. They hunted deer, basin, raccoons, and much, much more. The Cherokees wouldn`t always eat meat. They also made and ate a food called bean bread. I learned that all the food was mostly meat instead of plants. Back to Table of Photo Credit: Image Quest.com What kind of house did Cherokees live in? Could you imagine living in different houses? Well, the Cherokees could. They had lots of different types of houses. One kind of house were Wigwams. Wigwams were small, and around 810 ft. tall. It consisted a wooden frame covered with large pieces of birch bark. They were the type of dwelling. They built the dwelling from materials they found. So I think the houses were pretty easy to make. Back to Table of Photo Credit: Image Quest.com What Work Did The Men and Women Do? If you were a child back with the Cherokees would you like to work a lot? Well, I sure wouldn`t, but the they did it anyway. Men and women had lots of special jobs back then. The men were responsible for the chores and duties away from home. So they hunted the food. The women were responsible for the family`s daily needs. So they cleaned the house, and cooked food. The children were aloud to explore and play, but also expected to learn skills they would need as adults. I learned that the Cherokees had very important jobs. Back to Table of Photo Credit: Image Quest.com What Was Their Music Like? Cherokees had very interesting music. Music was a very common feature of life for the Cherokees. Not all songs had words. Some consisted of a series of sounds made by the voice. Other music consisted of rhythmic drumming accompanied by singing. I learned that the Cherokee`s music was a very common feature. Back to Table of Photo Credit: Clip Art What Games Did They Play? Cherokees played lots of really fun games. Their games were different types. Like running, wrestling, and playing ball. Some other games were purely for fun, but others were for skill. The most popular game played was lacrosse. The Cherokees played games of chance which are similar to modern dice games. I learned that the Cherokee`s games were of different types. Back to Table of : Photo Credit: Image Quest.com What Type Of Clothing Did They Wear? Would you like it if you always wore homemade clothing? Well, I`m not really sure if the Cherokees cared. In the rain the Cherokees would sometimes wear a deerskin cloak or a woven poncho so they could stay dry. In the summer for the men, and boys the breed cloth was the most common item. Sometimes women wore a wrap-around skirt or tunic made of tanned deerskin. So I think that all of the clothing were really helpful to the Cherokees.
