Readington Home School Association, Inc. _________________________________________________________________ P.O. Box 700, Whitehouse Station, New Jersey 08889 VICE PRESIDENTS HSA REPORT – THREE BRIDGES - OCTOBER 2, 2013 Ongoing Events TBS Tiger folders, gift card to stock the staff room & a box of paper were delivered prior to the start of school. Proud to report that all TBS HSA chair positions are currently filled. Current Events Invest in Your Child status is that TBS has turned in 59 student envelopes. Staff supporter envelopes are being collected and will be turned in soon. The Clothing Drive was held the week of September 9th. Clothes were picked up on the 16th, later than we had planned. We had fewer bags of clothes than in previous clothing drives, perhaps due to the timing of the clothing drive being the first week of school or because communication with parents with Genesis was new. Back to School Nights were very successful as usual. We were able to give an introduction to the HSA to the incoming kindergarten parents. A table of HSA information including our notepad, smencil, and flower sales was set-up at each BTSN. Smencil sales at BTSN totaled $346 and notepad sales were $242. The first Flower Sale of the year was held through Sept. 25th. Orders totaled 65 mums and 7 cabbage with an anticipated profit of about $260. A successful Book Fair was held the week of October 16th. We don’t yet have the Scholastic invoices, but our sales were approximately $5500 versus $5700 last year. We did have a more difficult time than in the past getting enough volunteers to help. We feel that is because parents weren’t used to checking the weekly Genesis mailings. We used our Homeroom Rep. network from last year to assist with getting the volunteers needed. Thank you to our Book Fair chairs, John and Rebecca Hennings for their time and effort coordinating a great book fair. The TBS Block Party was held on Friday Sept 20th. Over 320 people attended the patriotic themed party on a beautiful evening. The picnic was complete with three-legged and sack races. Our chairs, Shelley Molineux and Liz Biehl, did a wonderful job! They solicited and received over $400 in donations from local businesses, and made over $800 for the H.S.A. Two QuickStart tennis courts are complete at TBS and are being enjoyed by students (and staff!) during recess when weather permits. The courts were painted using money donated by the H.S.A. to the Student Activity Account at the end of the fiscal year. The USTA is reimbursing a portion of the funds back to the school. And to help the students learn more about the game of tennis, a local tennis pro gave instruction to those students who were interested during recess. That was funded from the TBS Cultural Arts program. The Ice Cream Social was held on September 27th complete with a visit from the TBS Tiger! Thank you to Carol Hample for coordinating. Upcoming Events The Halloween Read In will be held on October 25th. Our chair, Liz Loew, is busy planning a wonderful evening centered around reading and storytelling. November 16th will be our first Staff Breakfast sponsored by the H.S.A. and Homeroom Parents. These breakfasts were very well received last year. TBS Holiday Shoppe is in the works and will be held December 3 – 5.
