FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY! GOOD LUCK! Please Note: The decisions made by the Scholarship Committee are based on careful consideration of many factors and are final Tips for Success: How to Make Your Essay Count Focus on one activity or event; you have listed your range of accomplishments in your resume and do not need to repeat yourself. Portray your character, leadership ability, vision and what makes you unique. Give specifics. Be original but not bizarre; be yourself! Don’t “thesaurize” your composition, i.e. don’t use big words! Spend time on the introduction: don’t summarize but do create mystery and intrigue. Body paragraphs must relate to the introduction; conclusions are crucial! Do something else; spend time away from your draft to decide if you still consider your topic worthwhile. Get your family, friends, and teachers to edit and critique your essay. Edit! Revise! Edit!
