Temptation and
Sin
John 17:6-19
Things to remember...
• Temptation is real and sin is deadly
James 1:14-16
James 1:14-16
But each one is tempted when he
is drawn away by his own desires
and enticed. 15 Then, when desire has
conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when
it is full-grown, brings forth death. 16 Do not
be deceived, my beloved brethren.

Therefore let him who thinks he
stands take heed lest he fall.
Luke 22:31-34
And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon!
Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that
he may sift you as wheat. 32 But I have prayed
for you, that your faith should not fail; and
when you have returned to Me, strengthen
your brethren.” 33 But he said to Him, “Lord, I
am ready to go with You, both to prison and to
death.” 34 Then He said, “I tell you, Peter, the
rooster shall not crow this day before you will
deny three times that you know Me.”

Luke 15:1-7
Then all the tax collectors and the sinners
drew near to Him to hear Him. 2 And the
Pharisees and scribes complained, saying,
“This Man receives sinners and eats with them.” 3 So
He spoke this parable to them, saying: 4 “What man
of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of
them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the
wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he
finds it? 5 And when he has found it, he lays it on his
shoulders, rejoicing. 6 And when he comes home, he
calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to
them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep
which was lost!’ 7 I say to you that likewise there will
be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents
than over ninety-nine just persons who need no
repentance.”

This is a faithful saying and worthy
of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus
came into the world to save sinners, of whom I
am chief. 16 However, for this reason I
obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ
might show all longsuffering, as a pattern to
those who are going to believe on Him for
everlasting life.
Conclusion
It remains for us to resist and
flee temptation to avoid the
eternal consquence of sin!

(19), Nevertheless the solid
foundation of God stands, having
this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,”
and, “Let everyone who names the name of
Christ depart from iniquity.”
(22), Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue
righteousness, faith, love, peace with those
who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
