The professional staff is committed to providing high quality counseling for students with these issues. The main purpose of the counseling center is for students to feel comfortable with themselves, groups, and the community at large. This could be a huge resource at times of high stress and confusion. The counseling center provides someone to talk to about anything from depression, anxiety, uncertainty about college and studying, to even personal relationship problems. Especially for first year students this can really come in handy, because it’s common to have these problems during the first year on your own. 240 McComas Hall www.ucc.vt.edu 540-231-6557 Open: Mon.-Fri. 8am-5pm Contact to make an appointment Schiffert Health Center The Schiffert Health Center is a resource that students have access to through Virginia Tech. The services provided range from topic selection to oral practice. Coaching is available as well as video-taping capabilities to assure students they can be confident in their speech making abilities. The coaches will also work with students on specific details of speech giving such as body language, facial expressions, and gestures. They will also advise on Interpersonal and Group Skills so students are able to effectively and successfully work in project groups. Any student, faculty member, or even the general public can come in and get help with projects or just general questions they have with technology. They give students the hands on help that is needed. It’s as simple as just walking in and asking for help, however it is encouraged to make an appointment. If students need to make any kind of movie or video for a class, they allow students to rent out their equipment for 3 business days. On the Innovation Space’s website, it shows what equipment is available and how many items are left, so that students don’t waste time going all the way to Innovation Space to find out that the camera they needed is out of stock.
