Book Report Journal Requirements

1. Place the author’s full name, the title of the book you read, and the
total number of pages on the first page of journal
Steinbeck, John. Grapes of Wrath. 455 pages.
2. Journal each chapter (if long chapters) or at least every 30-40 pages,
describing the significant plot events. (Write down page numbers for
each entry). Each journal entry should be at least one paragraph long (710 sentences)
Chapters 1-3 (pages 1-34)
We are introduced to the Joad family and the first member that we meet is Tom
Joad, who has just been released from prison. He’s been serving a seven year
sentence for homicide.
3. Make a character list and describe each of the main characters in the
story.
Tom Joad: Having served time in prison for killing a man, Tom has returned
home just in time to travel with his family as they head to California, looking for
jobs.
4. Write two(2) favorite/significant quotes from the book. Note page
number of the quote. Write a paragraph for each that explains
the significance of the quote and why you thought that it was important.
Quote 1: “There ain't no sin and there ain't no virtue. There's just stuff people
do.” (pg. 342)

5. Draw or find a picture to illustrate one main scene from the story for a
book cover to your report. Document your source if you use an Internet
picture or illustration. This will be the first page of your report
6. Discuss why you liked or disliked the book. What did you learn from the
book? Make observations or connections to your life, values, ideas, and
experiences. Why do you think this book appeal to so many readers?
Overall, I really liked this book. I like history and this was a good lesson about
the Great Depression and how people suffered in this time period. I learned that
family is important, no matter what, and that sometime you have to leave your
family to save them. This book would appeal to any reader who likes a good
adventure.
