Biome Box Project
This project is being assigned on September 16 and is due on September 30. This is to be done at home;
no class time will be spent on the project. There are numerous online resources if you “google” Biome
Box. Biomes are covered in Chapter 17 of your textbook.
1. Your biome box must be in a shoe box or similar size box. It may or may not have a lid. The box
should be completely covered on the outside (this can be done with wrapping paper or
something to represent your biome- for example, brown paper for a desert).
2. Your biome box must include:







At least two producers
At least two primary consumers
At least one secondary consumer
At least one tertiary consumer
You may include a quaternary consumer if you want to
Abiotic components representative of this biome
At least one endangered species in the biome
Note: You may have small plastic animals/plants or you can buy them. You may make them out
of play dough or model magic. They may also be printed on paper and placed in the box
creatively. One of the best boxes ever turned in was entirely hand drawn.
3. Print or draw a map and color or shade the location of your biome- this needs to be specific to
what you have placed in your biome. For example, leopard geckos are found in the deserts of
the Middle East, but not in the deserts of the United States. Your map could be part of the
covering of your box.
4. Four index cards must be turned in with your box One will be a “legend” of the living things in your biome. It should include both the
common and scientific names of your organisms. On this card, list a typical food chain
of this biome.
 One will be a climatograph. You can” google” this for more information. On this card
also summarize the topography- mountainous, flat terrain, a major water source, etc.
 One will explain your endangered species, why it is endangered and if anything is being
done to protect it. Include other ecological problems impacting your biome and what is
being done, if anything to prevent these problems from becoming out of control.
 One will have interesting facts about your biome. What makes it unique and different
from other biomes? Why or why not would you want to visit it? What is life like for
people who live in this biome?
