Hate Crime Awareness – Years 9/10
Lesson Plan.
1-2 hour sessions
Overall purpose of session:
This session is intended to be interactive and lively, to allow pupils to explore the impact of hate
crime/incidents on victims’ lives. It should aim to outline the severity of being offenders in hate
crime/incidents and also encourage reporting should pupils experience or witness such instances

campaign, and creating a pin badge, to reinforce the school’s commitment to challenging hate
crime/incidents, are included. This session will complement Citizenship Modules particularly
challenging discrimination as well as helping the school to achieve its commitments towards
community cohesion. It could also be adapted as part of a History curriculum,(discrimination in
contexts), or Human Geography (immigration and discrimination), or Technology (if the use of social
media in discrimination, and causing offence or incitement is highlighted).
