AP Bio Virtual Fly Lab Due Date: Assignment: 1) Go to http://www.sciencecourseware.org/vcise/drosophila website. 2) Take the Tour on the procedures to follow to select, mate, take notes, store data in a lab report, and interpret chi-square analysis results using Drosophila flies as the test subject. 3) Enter as “guest” 4) Make each of the following crosses, take notes, record the results, do the chisquare analyses, and print out the results. **Note: With as many traits as there are to choose from, it is highly unlikely that any students will have duplicate results of more than 1 cross! a) Reciprocal cross (female mutant vs male wild type and female wild type vs male mutant); b) A test cross for a recessive trait. Mate an F1 wild type to a homozygous recessive mutant from the store. c) Cross an F1 x F1 to get a F2 generation. d) Select any two traits on two different chromosomes and study their inheritance patterns. Cross an F1 offspring to generate an F2 generation. e) Choose a sex-linked trait and make reciprocal crosses (female wild type vs. male mutant and female mutant vs. male wild type). 5) Print out everything you’ve done before you take the quiz. 6) Take the quiz. Be aware! You will not be allowed to change answers or stop once you start so be sure you have the time to finish. Your quiz results will be automatically recorded onto the class results and will be counted towards your grade. (But don’t worry, no pressure!) 7) Print out any results remaining including your certificate of completion. 8) Add an overall Purpose to the beginning and a Conclusion segment to the end and you’re done!
