Mensa Foundation
Awards of $300-$1000 are available for Orange County residents who plan to enroll in college
next fall. Candidates only need to write a 550-word essay.

Cal State Fullerton President's Scholars Program
Cal State Fullerton is looking for students who have maintained a 3.75 GPA, earned aboveaverage SAT/ACT scores, made significant contributions to school/community, and are
California residents. Benefits of being a President's Scholar include waiver of enrollment and
campus fees, an annual stipend for books and supplies, a laptop, priority registration, admission
to the honors program, opportunity for campus employment, special invitations to numerous
events, opportunities for study abroad and community service, entry to the peer mentor
program, and leadership training.

The Bank of America Student Leaders Program is for junior and seniors who have served their
communities in leadership in order to help them continue to make their community better.
Participants intern with a local non-profit for 8 weeks, attend the Student Leadership Summit in
Washington, DC, develop leadership and career skills, and connect with other communityminded students.

SportsQuest is offering scholarships to Christian sophomore, junior, and senior varsity athletes.

AXA Achievement Community Scholarship
Scholarships of $2000 will be awarded to students who are active in their community, have led
a project that has benefitted others, or have overcome personal challenges. Apply early... only

Carson Scholars Fund
Carson Scholars Fund awards $1000 scholarships to Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors who exemplify

Young Naturalist Awards
The American Museum of Natural History honors independent research in the areas of astronomy,
ecology, Earth science, and biology. Winners receive cash awards, publication of their essays, and an
expense-paid trip to New York City.

Compassion and Choices is looking for excellent essays from Juniors or Seniors why terminally ill family
members have the right to choose aid in dying. Finalists will receive awards of $250-$1000.

2014 MATTERS OF LIFE & DEATH SCHOLARSHIP WRITING CONTEST GUIDELINES
WRITING CONTEST OBJECTIVES
The goals of the Matters of Life & Death Scholarship Writing Contest are to help California
students develop awareness of the issues surrounding aid in dying and to financially assist
college-bound scholars.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
To participate in the Matters of Life & Death Scholarship Writing Contest you must meet the
following requirements:
•
Currently attending a California high school (or home-school),
•
Currently a high school junior or senior,
•
Planning to pursue a degree at an accredited college in the United States, and
•
United States citizen or Permanent Resident of the United States.
AWARDS
$1,000 for First Place,
$500 for Second Place, and
$250 for Third Place
INSTRUCTIONS
Each applicant must answer the question:
Why should a mentally competent, terminally ill adult family member have the right to choose
aid in dying? What would you say to another family member who disagrees?
All entries must be submitted by email no later than May 1, 2014.
