Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement Patterns to perform a variety of physical activities. Chase, Flee and Dodge using proper cues to play Speed Stack Standard #2 Survivor safely. Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principals, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning. Use teamwork to build the tallest tower using balance and Standard #5 strategy. Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings. Stay in a MVPA zone during the session. (Use Polar E600 to show) PE4L1.1-MVPA, PE4C.1.6- Offensive & defensive strategies, PE4R2.1- Social group teamwork Lesson Description/Overview (Instant Activity is a Pipeline adapted circuit, Lesson Focus- How to properly perform the cup stack cycle, Game- Survivor closing, tower building and assessment) Assessments (*attach examples if possible): Lesson: Time 5M 5M 10M 15M 5M Lesson Outline (Include Activity Names & Descriptions) Instant Activity Circuit FETCH- gathering 12 cups Practice of cycle Survivor Tower Briefly indentify differentiation strategies Lesson (adaptations or modifications for Objective learners) Addressed by Use of DVD to enhance learning Activity Instant Activity/Warm-Up: Pipeline Instant Activity Movement Sequence Task Cards Equipment needs: 2 basketballs, 2 jump ropes, 2 individual mats, two tennis balls, 6 hula hoops, two soccer balls, 2 exercise balls, 2 sets of cup stacks. Laminated task cards. Dribble a ball in a zigzag pathway for 30 seconds. Skip around the activity area one time. Jump Rope 50 times Balance on one leg for 30 seconds. Do as many push ups as you can without stopping! Crabwalk around the circle two times! Do a midline ball bounce thirty times, alternating hands. Hula Hoop 30 times- can you use more than one hula hoop? Dribble a ball around the activity space with your feet. Pick one exercise on the ball and do it thirty times. Cup stack cycle 3-6-3, 6-6, 1-10-1 make sure you end in a 3-6-3 Standard #1 Visual pictures of each activity Varied equipment Peer tutoring Learning Experiences/Activity(ies): FETCHUse of DVD to enhance learning Equipment needs: One set of speed stacks for each student. Allow stack of 3-3-3 Set up: Have students spread out 11 of their cups randomly within Use weighted stacks or mini stacks the designated activity area covering most of the space available. Use peer partners. Have the student place the 12th cup on the floor outside the activity area. This will become the students “home base”. Have student stand next to their home base to begin the activity. Procedure: ON the “GO” signal, students will run into the activity area finding a cup of the same color as their home base. One they find a cup, they will return to their home base and begin to build a column of 12 cups. Stackers will continue running back and forth, grabbing one cup at a time until all 12 cups are in a column. The student must then do a designated stack 3 times and then sit down at their home base signaling completion. Standard #2 Standard #5 PE4L1.1, PE4C.1.6, PE4R.2.1 Game experience: Survivor Equipment: 6 hula hoops, 8 sets of cups, two colored flag belts and cones to mark jail. *For extra MVPA use fit stack markers in the jail. Set Up: Place three same colored hoops on each side line of the activity area (6 in all) with a stack of cups placed in each hoop. Use cones to designate a small square as the “fitness jail” for each side line, and place fitness stack mats in each. Place an extra set of cups on the end line of the activity area. Divide the students into two teams; every student puts on a flag belt. The object of the game: To “steel” the most extra cups from the end line for your team. First you must make it to the opponents sideline and into a stacking hoop without having your belt pulled. Once there you are safe to perform whatever pattern was per-determined by the class. Then you must race to the end line, grab a cup, and return it to your own side (also without having your belt pulled). If a belt is pulled the student must go directly to jail and begin performing fitness activities until a teammate comes to rescue them. * *A free walk is given to someone who has safely made it to the jail. ONLY ONE student may be released at a time. The game ends after a certain amount of time or when all cups have been “Stolen”. The side with the most “stolen” cups wins! It is imperative to remind students to share the job of building the sequence each time. Tower building: Place all cups on one end line with teams lined up at the opposite end line. Students take turns retrieving one cup a t a time until all cups are gone. The team then builds a large tower with the cups they have available. *Take a picture to remember how well they work as a cooperative group! Comments: Questions: Can students explain how to properly perform a cycle in sport stacking? Can they estimate their time for a complete cycle? Do they know the World record for a cycle? 5.93 Steven Purugganan Did you know that in a recent study by Melanie Hart support is now given to the hypothesis that cup stacking does in fact utilize both sides of the brain?” You can get a copy of the study by contacting Melanie at: Texas Tech University Box 41121 Lubbock, TX 79409-1121 13 Sport Studies Center 806-742-3361
