What is Daybook?
A series of textbooks that will be used
in upper primary & secondary.
It is a journal style book that aims to
improve students reading and writing.
By reading & writing about literature,
students will become better readers &
writers.
What do students have to learn in
the 1st semester?
Children get an introduction to
Daybook in primary four with 5 units
before the 1st Assessment.
A: Content to learn
1. Be familiar with the gist of the
stories BUT DON’T MEMORISE THEM.
2. Learn the vocabulary that has
been isolated in the Guiding Notes.
3. Memorise some interesting
adjectives for character descriptions.
B: Skills to learn
1. Active Reading Skills
a.Underlining
b. Predicting
c. Drawing (visualization)
d. Asking questions
2. Character
Writing character descriptions.
Describing hopes and dreams.
Writing about what students want to
do when they grow up.
3. Setting
Where & when does a story occur?
Example
Even though she was tired, Sharon ran
as fast as she could around the track.
She wanted to do her very best in the
School Sports Day.
4. Plot
A story should have three parts – a
beginning, a middle and an end.
Round up
Encourage your children to use
Daybook as a journal i.e. make notes
Preview and review the stories.
Make sure that children understand
active reading, character, setting and
plot.
Pay close attention to sample papers.
