Objectives
International Symposium
The goals of the symposium are to (1) exchange
professional experiences and discuss problem
solving strategies in farming and rural systems
economics and biodiversity in the tropics, (2) to
improve and promote research and teaching cooperation and (3) to evaluate activities of the past
and intensify and establish new relations

Economics and Biodiversity
in the Tropics
Participants
Scientists and managers in universities and
research centers from Africa, Middle East, Central
and South Asia, Southeast Asia and Latin America
as well as from European Universities and
institutions related to the tropics. This includes
Alumni from developing countries who did their PhD
in a German University and scientifically and
academically interested persons who deal with
issues in the developing world.

Content
Farming and Rural Systems Economics and
Biodiversity in the Tropics includes natural
resources availability and sustainable use, product
and input markets and rural infrastructure, living
standard of rural families and livelihood in rural
areas, and administrative regulations, policy
decision-making, credits, ownership, cultural
impacts.
