The Legend of the European Mockingbird
• It’s called a pious bird and
• It has a scarlet breast b/c, according to legend, it
picked a thorn from the crown of Christ as he was
on his way to Calvary. A drop of blood fell onto its
breast, dying it red.
• The robin showed compassion and mercy.
• Tom Robinson helped Mayella out of compassion
for her.
