Understanding & Managing Organisations Researching your own sources and articles Text books are only a starting point and as mentioned above, you will need to do your own research for in-depth coverage and in the completion of your assignment. Text Books To find a book that is not on our lists, click on the LRC button on a SHU desktop PC (purple book logo on the bottom task bar). Enter your search term in the dialogue box (you can change the search criteria to name or title using the drop down box). Check the on-line database facilities (particularly Emerald and Business Source Premier) through the online Learning Centre catalogue. Some journal articles can be downloaded in full or in summary. For online tutorials see http://catalogue.shu.ac.uk/screens/litsearchtutorials.html. But in brief follow these steps.... 1. Go to the library catalogue (purple book icon on SHU PC, bottom of page or via PORTAL) 2. Click on 'LitSearch' (link on the very top of the page) then 'Login to LitSearch' (you may need to login here using usual login details) 3. Chose 'BUSINESS' from subject list then 'BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT' from subcategory 4. Go to BUSINESS SOURCE PREMIER (need to select this option on the next page too) or EMERALD MANAGEMENT XTRA Enter desired search terms into find box e.g. 'total reward strategy' or 'performance management voluntary sector'. If too many references are found, refine the search term e.g. 'total reward strategy Chinese organisations'. You should now be able to access abstracts or full text of the articles.
