The quote is “So then, royal son of Laertes, Odysseus, and man of exploits, still eager to leave at once and hurry back to your own home, your beloved native land? Good luck to you, even so. Farewell!” This quote is Calypso talking to Odysseus and telling him good luck and good bye. In this quote it shows that Odysseus is eager to go home to Ithaca to see his family. “Ah me unhappy, what in the long outcome will befall me? I fear the goddess might have spoken the truth in all ways when she said that on the sea and before I came to my country I would go through hardships; now all this is being accomplished, such clouds are these, with which Zeus is cramming the wide sky and has staggered the sea, and storm blasts of winds from every direction are crowding in. My sheer destruction is certain.” This quote is talking about all the hardships and suffering Odysseus had to go through with the gods to get to Ithaca. In this quote it shows that so much happened to Odysseus and he went through so much, but still made it back to Ithaca. Odysseus is a very strong and loyal person that isn’t afraid of suffering to get to his goal. Athena “Knowledge speaks, but wisdom listens.” –Jimi Hendrix Athena is the god of justice and will sort out things and make them fair. “It is true that the young men with their black ship are lying in wait for him to kill him before he reaches his country; but I think this will not happen, but that sooner the earth will cover some one of those suitors, who now are eating away your substance.” This quote is saying that the suitors are out to kill Odysseus, but he will make it to Ithaca. Athena is a god of justice and is always right so is telling Odysseus his fate. “Hold back, men of Ithaca, from the wearisome fighting, so that most soon, and without blood, you can settle everything.” This quote is telling Odysseus that he will be able to make it home. Athena is saying that Odysseus soon will settle everything and be at peace with the gods. Athena was very wise and just and knew how to sort things out so she always made things right. Telemachus “Life every man holds dear; but the dear man holds honor far more precious dear than life.” – William Shakespeare Telemachus shows honor like Odysseus does and admits when he’s wrong. “But if you are determined to murder me with the sharp bronze, then that would be my wish also, since it would be far better than to have to go on watching forever these shameful activities, guests being battered about, or to see you rudely mishandling the serving all about the beautiful palace.” No matter how they kill Telemachus, he would rather die than be alive. He is following Odysseus’ footsteps in being strong and loyal. “Father, it was my own mistake, and there is no other to blame. I left the door of the chamber, which can close tightly, open at an angle. One of these men was a better observer than I.” Telemachus eventually realizes his mistake and apologizes for leaving the chamber door open. Telemachus will be honest and admit when he is wrong like his dad. Telemachus is an honest person and shows loyalty and honor to his father.
