Take the Next Step to Join Coastal FCU (see sample letter attached)
Dear Coastal Neighbor:
To have your association affiliate with Coastal Federal Credit Union, please send us
a copy of your association’s by-laws. In addition, please take a minute to write a
one-page Membership Request Letter on your company/association letterhead (see
sample attached) including the following:
1. A request for your company/association to become affiliated with Coastal
Federal Credit Union.
2. A statement as to whether or not your company/association is affiliated with
any other credit union (If you’re already affiliated, please identify the
credit union.)
3. A declaration that creating a new credit union to serve your members is not
practical due to lack of sufficient volunteers and resources.
4. A description including:
 the nature of your association
 the number of members (this can also include board members)
 the Federal Tax Identification Number of your company
5. The exact distance from your meeting place to the nearest Coastal FCU
branch (see branch listing).
6. Associations must also address each of the following:
 Whether the members pay dues
 Whether the members have voting rights
 Stated purpose or goals of the association as well as whether
members participate in the furtherance of these goals
 Whether the association maintains a membership list
 Association’s member eligibility requirements
 Frequency of meetings
Please email or mail your application letter to my attention at the above address. As
soon as we receive your letter, we will submit it to the National Credit Union
Administration (NCUA) for final approval, which may take up to four weeks.

Dear Consuela:
The Raleigh branch of XYZ Association wants to offer membership in Coastal
Federal Credit Union to our members and staff. We currently have no affiliation with
another credit union. Since we lack the sufficient volunteers and resources to commit
to the operation of chartering a new credit union, joining Coastal FCU remains a
more practical decision for XYZ Association at this time.
The Raleigh branch of XYZ Association is headquartered in Raleigh, NC. Our Tax ID
Number is 52-1111111. We were founded to promote the professional well-being of
our members as well as encourage professionalism in the community, namely in
college and university environments. Our members participate in various activities to
further these goals. We are one of 75 nationwide chapters. We currently have 150
members located in the Raleigh area, all of whom pay annual dues and have voting
rights. We do have a membership list as well as individual membership cards.
Members must meet eligibility requirements including a home or work address in the
Raleigh area and willingness to pay dues. We conduct monthly meetings at 123
Smith Way, which is 2.7 miles from Coastal FCU’s Quail Corners branch. (please
refer to branch listing for specific branch name).
