CROSSFIRE MINISTRIES 2013 ANNUAL REPORT Johnny V. 1930 – 2014 This beautiful bulding was provided to Crossfire Ministries by the generosity and kindness of John Ventimiglia and the Ventimiglia Family Foundation. We will always be grateful. Crossfire Ministries moved into our new building February 15, 2011. Between that date and the end of 2013, we had the privilege of serving 237,976 individuals, equating to 79,823 families. Crossfire Ministries is a faith based, non-profit, Christian organization dedicated to being a source of encouragement and hope for a better day to those in need. 2120 E. LaSalle St. Colorado Springs, CO 80909 719-447-1806 2 Letter from the Executive Director John A. Miller, II Many thanks for your tremendous support to Crossfire and to us personally. It is really a miracle how God has put us all together to help those in need in our area. Again we hit several milestones in 2013. We have almost crossed the 500,000 number of individuals served since our inception in 1992. Crossfire continues to be a miracle. It amazes me how God continues to supply everything needed: product, volunteers and friends. In 2013, we gave away 1,216,000 pounds of food. Every area had an increase: clothes, toiletries and hours volunteered. In 2013, we were accepted into (ECFA) Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability. We are proud to be part of this organization. This assures you, our partners, that Crossfire is keeping our finances to the highest standards. * We have a written Statement of Faith. * We are governed by a Board of Directors. * Our financial statements are prepared by an accountant and reviewed annually by an independent CPA firm. * We use our resources in a responsible and Biblical manner. * We are transparent. Our federal Form 990 is available on our website, crossfireministries.com. You may also call me personally with any questions at 719-650-4152. * We remain an all-volunteer organization. No individual receives a salary. * We act in the best interests of our supporters and our family members (our clients) in providing food to the hungry, clothing the naked, taking care of widows and orphans and bringing the Good News of Jesus Christ to the poor. This past year has many memories of God’s miracles. I think we only recognize about 1% of what God does. Holy Spirit please help us recognize how much our God does for us. Thank You for those revelations. We want to thank the eight local Walmart’s who together donated a major sum to Crossfire’s food program. Walmart Superstores: Woodland Park, Powers and Palmer Park, Platte and Chelton; Powers and Woodmen; Monument; Fountain. Walmart Neighborhood Stores: Union and LeLaray; Academy and Austin Bluffs With gratitude and thanks, John Miller 3 Letter from Board of Directors Bob Bartlett, President It is so very exciting and also an enormous honor to come before you, our donors, our volunteers, our supporters and our prayer partners. I want to share with you what God has done for Crossfire Ministries in 2013. We remain debt free, praise God from whom all blessings flow! We have been blessed and privileged to meet both physical and spiritual needs of our clients, our family, as we prefer to refer to them. Each one has a unique story just as you and I each have a story. God knows each one intimately and loves each one deeply. We are humbled to be the hands and feet of Jesus in reaching out to each one of them. In 2013, as you will see inside this report, we served 96,305 individuals, which equates to 32,096 families. We offer Bibles free on our shelves and between people taking the Bibles from the shelves and receiving them at Thanksgiving, we gave away 3,613 Bibles in 2013. As the Psalms say in Psalm 119:105, “They Word is a lamp onto my feet and a light onto my path.” It is God who prospers, we simply desire to be faithful in planting seeds for those who seek Him. It is our desire to be the hands and feet of Jesus in our actions here at Crossfire. We continue to seek God’s will in all of our decisions regarding Crossfire Ministries and ask that you please keep us lifted up in prayer. We are never so close to God as when we are on our knees to pray. As I said last year, “Thank you again for honoring us with your prayers, your donations and your encouragement.” Sincerely, Bob Bartlett President, Board of Directors Board Members Bob Bartlett, President and Trustee Michelle Dickerson, Trustee Rev. Core Values 1. Support For The Ministry: We believe God builds the house, as such, we are led by God’s provision. 2. Service To All: Crossfire strives to serve all who need help. We are to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ. We honor the dignity and worth of those we serve and our volunteers. We strive to treat all with respect and kindness, as we would our own family. 3. Faith-Based: Crossfire is faith-based and Bible centered according to II Timothy 3:16-17. “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” KJV 4. Accountability, Stewardship, and Transparency: We believe everything belongs to God and comes from God therefore, Crossfire strives to be good stewards of all that God has blessed us with and we strive to operate with integrity and excellence and transparency. 5. Volunteerism: We believe that God wants all to serve. Crossfire, through faith, has open arms to volunteers in order to allow them the opportunity to grow and serve others. 6. Collaboration: Crossfire strives to work with other agencies and other non-profit organizations in the community, exemplifying a spirit of cooperation and helpfulness with one another. James 2:14-18 14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without you works, and I will show you my faith by my works.” Proverbs 21:13 “If a man shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too will cry out and not be answered.” 5 CROSSFIRE MINISTRIES, INC. The category “minor children” was removed from the “Income Source” table so the data would only reflect the income status of adults. 8 Volunteers Since 1992, Crossfire Ministries has been able to remain 100% volunteer operated; we simply cannot function without our volunteers. Our volunteers serve as the hands and feet of Jesus in this community and we praise God for each and everyone of them. In 2013, we received approximately 39,000 volunteer hours from all walks of life in our community. We are humbly grateful for the individuals, the families and the organizations who join together with Crossfire to help and to serve our needy neighbors, our needy family as we choose to call our clients, in our community. We recently implemented a computer tracking system to more accurately record the volunteer hours given to Crossfire. Using the Independent Sector for the State of Colorado figures, the value given for a volunteer hour is $25.10. With this figure in mind, we received the equivalent of $978,900 in donated volunteer hours. Community Service Volunteers In addition to regular volunteers, many individuals receiving food stamp assistance (SNAP – Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and CWEP (Community Work Experience Program) perform their community service work requirements with Crossfire. Crossfire continues to provide opportunities for individuals to complete their work hour requirements to earn their food stamps; for teens to complete their hours for teen court; and, for adults to complete their hours for the court system. Bible Give-Away We believe that by supplying the physical needs of our clients, the door is open to also minister to their spiritual needs. Crossfire Ministries and the Gideons gave away 3,613 Bibles in 2013, with the Gideons giving away approximately 750 Bibles at our Thanksgiving give-away. We also are blessed to be able to pray with our clients and volunteers that request prayer. Where does our food come from? Approximately 65% comes from Care and Share and approximately 35% comes from the community. Of the 65% that we receive from Care and Share, we purchase some and receive some as an allotment. We purchase large quantities of beans and rice in 50 pound bags from farmers and local distributers. We then put them into smaller bags of two cups each for distribution. We are fortunate to be able to glean approximately 60,000 to 80,000 pounds of fresh produce from the Farmer’s Market during the summer from the Miller Farm (no relations to John and Leslie Miller). God has been so gracious to provide us with walk-in freezers and a walk-in cooler where we can store perishable foods. In addition, we have a semi-trailer that has been converted into a cooler/freezer and we have a refrigerated truck. 9 PROGRAMS The four core programs of Crossfire Ministries’ mission are food, clothing, toiletries and household items.
