‘Friends on a learning journey
achieving success together’
• This year we are moving away from using the NC
‘Levels’ which you may have previously seen in
reports. Your child’s progress will be measured in
school by whether they have achieved the
‘Milestone’ objectives specific to their year or
phase group. Further information will be shared
regarding the reporting process later this term.
• Children will be set learning challenges in school
and always encouraged to challenge themselves
in their own learning to move on and make
progress.

Our Home learning Expectations
At Warfield we expect that all children
undertake all Maths and English home learning
set by their class teacher.
Home Learning Grids
• These have been given out for this half term. Children should keep a
record of their points totals and share any home learning on a Friday. Class
teachers will award their own certificates and prizes for outstanding effort
or individual home learning pieces.
Mental Maths
• Half termly Maths learning at home sheets are provided to focus on which
mental maths target areas to test your child on at home in preparation for
weekly tests in school.
Spellings
• Spelling lists will be given out. Results will be recorded in school and the
children made aware of their marks.
Meeting your child’s individual needs
Within lessons tasks are differentiated by teachers to
meet children’s needs either by task, by level of
support or by expected outcome.
Children are encouraged to challenge themselves
within lessons by choosing a level of challenge activity
appropriate for them.
Children may often work in mixed ability pairs or
groups within a classroom to encourage peer support.
Children may be invited to attend groups outside of the
classroom to meet their specific learning needs.
Reading
At Warfield CE Primary School we feel that regular and
appropriately challenging reading of a range of texts is
essential to ensuring the development of all of our
children.
We ask that parents listen to their child read on a daily
basis and record this in their child’s Reading Journal.
In Year 4 your child’s reading will be listened to
regularly in school. This will happen through lesson and
guided reading times. Your child may not be heard
individually on a weekly basis by their class teacher but
will be heard regularly by other adults in school who
will record the reading session in their Reading Journal.
