Section B: Your School
1.
Tell us about your school. For example, What age are the students? Location? Environment?
There are no marks for this question; however, your answers to this question help us to understand
your school business better.
Belle Rose SSS is a girls –only secondary school. Found on the outskirts of the town
of Quatre-Bornes, it is situated next to a river, on land that was previously used for
sugar cane cultivation. The students come from some 10 km around the school.
The area is quite isolated during holidays. The land is reasonably fertile and all
around there are supermarkets and other businesses. The school even has an
endemic corner. The building is in concrete and has 5 blocks of two storeys. The
students are aged between 11 years to 19 years old. Students are encouraged to
participate in numerous co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. They study
natural sciences, social sciences, computer sciences, languages, literature, Physical
Education and Art. The school has just started t offer HSC Professional this year. All
students take part in the Cambridge School Certificate and Higher School
Certificate examinations. The school year is from January to December, with the
summer holidays from November to the second week of January.
Section C: Your Resources
TOP TIP!
To help you score high marks in questions 2-4, we strongly recommend carrying out a Resource
Assessment. You can find a Resource Assessment Template in Weekly Guide 2 and in the ‘Resources’
section of your school profile!
2.
What resources at your school could you use to start a business and how? E.g. ‘We have internet
at school and 3 computers so we could start an internet café.’ (2)
The school is equipped with two computer labs having internet. Each computer lab has twenty
computers, all in working order and projectors. There are two Biology labs, two Physics labs as well as
two Chemistry labs. There are two Home Economics kitchens equipped with electric ovens, gas cookers
and refrigerators and all necessary equipment for students doing Food Studies. There is also an audiovisual room with a big projector with a capacity of accommodating some 50 students.
The school also has 29 classrooms from Forms I to VI.

3.
How could you use your school’s location as a business opportunity? E.g. ‘Our school is near a
tourist attraction, so we could sell handicrafts to local tourists.’ (2)
There are numerous businesses near and around the school. There are shops of all sorts all around but
using the schoolʾs location as a business opportunity seems quite difficult as this would imply facing lots
of competition. However students could make use of the different facilities around to get in touch with
businesses around as well as the presence of some institutions for help and support or gathering
information.
4.
How could you use your existing skills to start a business? E.g. ‘Six students have cooking skills, so
they could help other students to start a café.’ (2)
Many students have cooking skills. Some are even doing Food Studies. Some are also studying Art and
are well versed in handicrafts. All of them are comfortable with the use of computers and the internet.
All of them have been following a course in Entrepreneurship Education during the activity period since
January until July. However they do not have a hands-on experience when it comes to setting a
business. Some of them are also studying Business Studies, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics,
Sociology, English, French and Art.

Section E: Your Business Idea
TOP TIP!
To help you choose the best business idea and to score high marks in this section, we strongly
recommend carrying out a Feasibility Study. You can find a Feasibility Study Template in Weekly Guide 3
and in the ‘Resources’ section of your school profile!
6.
Which of your ideas did you choose as your Final Business Idea and why? (6). Please give 3
reasons why you chose this idea. Remember to use the results of your Feasibility Study in your
answer.
The business we would like to set up is: A tea shop selling varieties of teas, cakes and handicrafts
made by students
Reason 1: Tea is grown in Mauritus and is available in different flavours
Reason 2:Students are eager to demonstrate their cooking skill while having good food to eat.
Reason 3:The handicraft corner will allow more revenues to be generated while allowing everyone
3

to demonstrate their skills and why not trsin others in different crafts.
7.
How does your Final Business idea meet the People, Profit, Planet criteria? (6).
People: Part of the profit will be given to students doing Food Studies who need Rs300 (i.e. around
$10) each week to do their practicals. They will help with the cooking thus having even more
chances to practice for the exams.
Profit: The business will hopefully generate enough money to fund the people, planet objective as
well as to invest in the business and be distributed in the form of dividends to students having set
up the business.
Planet: Some students will be involved in planting herbs to be used in the tea shop while part of the
profit will be given to pre-vocational students setting up a kitchen garden while using recycled
material. The money would be used to buy seeds mainly.
Section F: Start-up capital
8.
a) Does your business need start up capital (money)? Please circle one: Yes
b) If yes, how are you planning to raise the start-up capital? (10) Please tell us in as much detail as
possible how you are going to raise the money needed to start up your school business.
The students will set up a private limited company and each will contribute to the capital of the business in
terms of shares. The Parent-Teacher Association of the school will also come up with ideas and donations
when needed.
OR c) If no, why do you not require start up capital? (10)
