COURSE PREREQUISITES: Intro to Psychology
Course Description: This course will cover the biosocial, cognitive and psychosocial development of the
person from birth through death and dying.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to—
1. Describe the biosocial development of an individual
2. Describe the cognitive development of an individual
3. Describe the psychosocial development of an individual
4. Describe the research methods used to produce attachment theory
5. Discuss the impact of early child development on behavior in later life.
6. Develop an understanding of macro-change and micro-change in the developing person

Teaching Methods: Lectures, discussions, and class participation will be the primary teaching method
supplemented by films, demonstrations, group activities, and guest speakers as available. In class and
outside of class activities may be included. Professor will seek to incorporate methods that assist learners of
all learning styles to ensure the greatest success in learning for all students.
EVALUATION TECHNIQUES: 6 EXAMS, ONE PRESENTATION AND ONE FINAL EXAM. EACH
EXAM IS WORTH 50 PTS, FINAL IS WORTH 100 AND THE PRESENTATION IS WORTH 60 PTS.
THIS WITH THE ATTENDANCE AND PARTICIPATION POINTS IS HOW YOUR GRADE IS
DETERMINED.
ATTENDANCE: You get 10 points for every class you attend. If you miss a class, you miss the
10 points. You can acquire UP TO 10 points in every class for your participation. Participation is
defined as any verbal communication which indicates you have read the material. It could be
asking questions on something you do not understand or contributing your understanding of the
material.
LATE ASSIGNMENTS AND MAKE-UP WORK: NONE THERE WILL BE NO MAKE UP WORK
OR LATE ASSIGNMENTS FOR THIS CLASS
Course Withdrawal: The deadline to withdraw from a course shall not exceed 3/4 the duration
of any class. Contact the Counseling Office at any TCC campus to initiate withdrawal from a course
('W' grade) or to change from Credit to Audit. Check the TCC Academic Calendar for deadlines.
Students who stop participating in the course and fail to withdraw may receive a course grade of
“F,” which may have financial aid consequences for the student.

assignments will be sent to your MyTCC email address; and you must use MyTCC email
to send email to, and receive email from, the instructor regarding this course.
Inclement Weather: TCC rarely closes. If extreme weather conditions or emergency
situations arise, TCC always gives cancellation notices to radio and television stations.

SYLLABUS CHANGES: Occasionally, changes to the syllabus may be necessary. Students will
be notified of any changes to the syllabus.

ACADEMIC DISHONESTY: Academic dishonesty (cheating) is defined as the deception of
others about one’s own work or about the work of another. Academic dishonesty or misconduct is
not condoned or tolerated at campuses within the Tulsa Community College system. Tulsa
Community College adopts a policy delegating certain forms of authority for disciplinary action to
the faculty. Such disciplinary actions delegated to the faculty include, but are not limited to, the
dismissal of disrespectful or disorderly students from classes. In the case of academic dishonesty a
faculty member may:




Require the student to redo an assignment or test, or require the student to complete a
substitute assignment or test;
Record a "zero" for the assignment or test in question;
Recommend to the student that the student withdraw from the class, or administratively
withdraw the student from the class;
Record a grade of "F" for the student at the end of the semester. Faculty may request
that disciplinary action be taken against a student at the administrative level by
submitting such a request to the Dean of Student Services.

BEHAVIORAL CONTRACT

As a college student, I recognize that my enrollment at Tulsa Community College is
voluntary and that this enrollment indicates my willingness to learn; as such, I agree to abide by
my professor’s behavioral policies as delineated in the course syllabus and by the policies
outlined in the Student Code of Conduct. I understand that my professor’s and the institution’s
policies for inappropriate student conduct consist of the following behaviors:
 Repeatedly interrupting an instructor while he/she is lecturing or conversing with another
student without first raising one’s hand and waiting until called upon.
 Asking questions not pertinent to the topic of discussion.
 Causing classroom disruptions by
o walking out of the classroom abruptly or leaving the classroom multiple times
o talking during lecture
o using an inappropriately raised voice
o tardiness
o distracting classmates
o using approved electronic media in a manner not relevant to the lecture/lab.
 Displaying a lack of respect or courtesy to faculty or classmates through derogatory
language, threatening or offensive words or behavior, or unwanted invasion of personal
space.
 Using a prohibited electronic device in the classroom.
 Working on material not related to this class.
 Refusing to follow directions from faculty.
 Influencing or attempting to influence another person to violate these misconduct
policies.
I understand that these policies exist to preserve the learning environment for all students. If I
choose not to abide by my professor’s and/or the institution’s policies, I understand the
penalties to which I may be subjected, some of which could include sanctioning, failure, and/or
suspension.
