The Ormeau Centre is a specialist emergency accommodation provider that promotes the sustainable resettlement of single homeless adults with complex needs. JOB TITLE Project Worker LOCATION: Belfast ACCOUNTABLE TO: Senior Practitioner ACCOUNTABLE FOR: Bank Workers JOB PURPOSE: To facilitate the provision of high tolerance, 24hour emergency accommodation for single homeless adults with complex needs. Job description Managing risk: risk management at the core of practice and management The Project Worker will: 1.1 Assume lead responsibility for the processing of referrals and admissions in line with the Project’s assessment and recording procedures and standards. 1.2 Provide a safe, caring environment for the Service Users/ staff for the effective and safe running of the Project. 1.3 Comply with Extern & Local Health & Safety polices and procedures. 1.4 Participate in the assessment and drafting of Service Users’ Risk Management Plans and assume a lead role in the implementation and monitoring of the same. 1.5 Ensure compliance with the Project’s Medication Policy, Drugs Policy and Drugs Accommodation protocols, polices and procedures. 1.6 Use Extern’s On-Call system, in accordance with Organisational and Project Policy and procedures. 1.7 Compile significant incident reports, safeguarding adults disclosure reports and contact records in line with organisational and Project policy and procedures. 1.8 Contribute to the assessment of individual needs and risks of Residents and assume a lead role in implementation and monitoring of support plans for your allocated workload. 1.9 Register with NISCC and ensure active compliance with NISCC code of conduct and re-registration standards. 1.10 An up-to-date knowledge of the needs and risks of each resident is required. 1.11 Comply with all fire safety polices, regulations and fire drills. Managing quality: providing quality services The Project Worker will: 2.1 Ensure that all resources required are kept in good repair and used in an efficient, cost effective manner. 2.2 Ensure accurate recording of petty cash, service charge, residents’ personal monies and the collection of money concerning outside activities. 2.3 Assume core responsibility for the management of residents’ finance files and procedures. 2.4 Support income generation activities. 2.5 Assume core responsibility for the cleaning and maintenance of the Project to a required standard, including the appropriate use and storage of all cleaning materials. 2.6 Be responsible for maintaining food hygiene standards, including the cooking of nutritious food for Residents and the recording duties associated with the same. 2.7 Plan and facilitate group activities with Residents to promote their social skills and social inclusion. 2.8 Comply with the Project’s harm reduction agenda and consistently and robustly apply this model to your practice. 2.9 Engage with the Project’s Learning Agency Development Strategy to address identified learning needs and professional development. 2.10 Attend all mandatory Project and Organisational training and be accountable for the integration of learning into your practice. Managing resources: people, money, physical assets and information The Project Worker will: 3.1 Develop effective and credible relationships with staff within the Project, across the Organisation and with external agencies and stakeholders. 3.2 Ensure appropriate and effective use of Organisational Outlook software including the maintenance of an e-mail account to ensure effective communication. 3.3 Ensure own communication with others is always appropriate, clear and accurate. 3.4 Ensure the confidentiality of information in line with Extern’s procedures and Data Protection Legislation. 3.5 Contribute to the data input and maintenance of Extern’s service user database having particular responsibility for logging referrals and admissions information. 3.6 Effectively plan/manage own work and contribute to effective planning within the Project. 3.7 Contribute to the promotion/management of change as a positive force and support service users during periods of change systems. Managing communications: internal and external communication The Project Worker will: 4.1 Contribute to the review of own inductions and the induction of bank workers, other Project Workers and Social Work Students. 4.2 Assess and manage own work performance including preparation for supervision and appraisal process. 4.3 Have a clear understanding of the Project’s Outcome Model and its role in shaping Assessment Support Planning, implementation and evaluation functions. 4.4 Contribute to setting work objectives and Project objectives. 4.5 Participate positively as a Team Member, including input to daily handovers and weekly staff meetings. 4.6 Supervise Bank Workers on shift to ensure Project standards are met. 4.7 Contribute to the collective accountability of the Project staff by providing feedback on your own performance and on the performance of other staff. A particular requirement is the reporting of inappropriate practice of others and being accountable for own performance if this is below standard. 4.8 Assume responsibility for the provision of an accessible, quality overnight service to residents and potential residents. 4.9 Ensure Case Files and IT records for your allocated case loads are accurate, up-to-date and formatted in the correct manner. 4.10 Take direction from Senior staff to ensure the delivery of a quality service. 4.11 Develop a clear understanding of Supporting People Quality Assessment Framework and its application to Project practice. 4.12 Comply with Extern’s Service User Complaints policy. 4.13 Contribute to the Project’s Service User Participation Agenda, including the gathering of feedback/evaluation from Service Users concerning services provided by the Project. Qualifications/Experience 1.1 Essential Criteria The successful candidate must have: A minimum of 4 GCSE’s (Grade C or above) or equivalent e.g. NVQ Level II in relevant discipline. e.g. Health and Social Care. One years’ experience working with adults with complex needs and challenging behaviours. IT competence, including use of Microsoft Office applications.
