APPLICATION FOR HELP TO HELP SCHOLARSHIP
Help to Help provide scholarship for financial disadvantaged students with high potential and
ambitions to contribute to the development of Tanzania.
Applications for the Help to Help scholarship are accepted twice a year, before the beginning of each
school semester. The application period for autumn of 2015 will open on August 1st and the last day to
send in your application and all the required documents will be August 20th.
All students who meet the criteria stated below are welcome to apply.
Steps of application process:
1. Read the guidelines carefully
2. Answer all the questions in the application form
3. Gather all the required documents and name them according to the instructions
4. Send all the required documents to application@helptohelp.se
5. A first selection is made from the completed applications
6. Students selected in the first round are interviewed online
7. Help to Help decide which students should move on to the second round
8. Help to Help contacts the references of potential candidates
9. Help to Help decide which of the potential candidates will receive scholarships from Help to
Help
10. Final decisions are sent to selected students
STEP 1: GUIDELINES FOR STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
ELIGIBILITY
You may qualify for support if you are of Tanzanian origin and are:
o
Accepted for but not yet enrolled in a first degree (undergraduate) course at an accredited
college or university in Tanzania.
o
Enrolled in a first degree (undergraduate) course at an accredited college or university in
Tanzania.
To qualify for support all applicants must also meet the criteria stated below:
o
Applicants must have good academic records (grades) from previous studies.
o
Applicants must have good English skills, meaning that they must be able to express
themselves well in both written and spoken English.
o
Applicants must show proof of being financially disadvantaged in such a way that they will
not be able to start or continue their studies without external financial support (such as a Help
to Help scholarship).
o
The Help to Help scholarship only cover costs for tuition fee, medical insurance fee,
registration and examination fee as well as expenses directly connected to allowing the student
to enroll. The scholarship does not cover costs for books, sports, food, accommodation and
such. Applicants must therefore ensure that they have reliable access to other financial
resources to cover any funding gap.
o
Help to Help value applicants that are problem solvers and who intend to work to promote the
development of Tanzania and help others who come from poor and disadvantaged
backgrounds. Help to Help also value applicants who are honest, ambitious and have shown
proof of overcoming challenges.
o
Applicants must be recommended to the program by a current member of the Help to Help
network. Applicants must also provide accurate references. For a more detailed explanation of
what a reference is; see description under ‘Required Documents’
DOCUMENTS
Required Documents:
When applying for a Help to Help scholarship you need to send us the following documents. Please
make sure to provide all the required documents when applying, as incomplete applications will be
disregarded.
o
Completed scholarship application form. Make sure you answer all questions and that your
answers are concrete and easy to understand.
o
Personal motivational letter describing your family background, who you are as a person as
well as stating how you qualify for and is worthy of the scholarship (maximum 500 words).
o
A copy of your grades from the last semester you studied. (We accept secondary school results
only from those who have not yet received grades at university level.)
o
Your university admission letter.
o
Fee structure from the university including bank details for your university.
o
One recommendation letter from a current member of the Help to Help network.
o
One or more reference letters from a teacher or employer, recommending and testifying on
your merits as a candidate to our scholarship program. Each letter needs to include their
contact information. Failure to provide accurate and up-to-date contact information will reflect
badly on you.
o
Death certificates of relatives, if such conditions are implied on in the application form.
We urge all applicants to send all the documents attached to the same email. This way the
administration part of your documents will run a lot smoother and less time consuming.

CONDITIONS
Students accepted to Help to Help’s scholarship program are required to sign two grant agreement
letters:

The Student Agreement stating the rules and requirements for accepted students.

The Website User Agreement regarding the use of the Help to Help website.
These documents state the conditions of the support clearly and students who are being offered a
scholarship must accept the conditions before the scholarship is provided. If a student fails to observe
the conditions, he or she will be not be eligible for future support.
Help to Help promotes gender equality. In case two applicants have the same qualifications Help to
Help will prioritize the female candidate.

WARNINGS
Anyone submitting false documents, making untrue statements or failing to disclose all
relevant information will be prohibited from receiving grants from Help to Help now
and in the future.
