Advocacy
NAEA has a prominent seat at the table with senior
IRS decision-makers and has frequent
communication with IRS that produces results:





NAEA has successfully pressed for a carve-out from the
PTIN requirement for non-signing preparers working in EA
firms;
Successfully lobbied for a reduction in the EA renewal fee;
Gives member testimonies before the House and Senate on
issues that make a difference in your practice;
Has local level partnerships with your state affiliate on statebased legislation and regulatory issues.
Advocacy

A Legal Defense Fund was created to assist with the
legal expenses required to defend the rights of
enrolled agents on the national, state and local
levels.

NAEA PAC (a bipartisan political action committee),
a significant grassroots force helps elect public
officials that understand and share the priorities of
enrolled agents.
Advocacy
NAEA’s annual Fly-in Day provides an opportunity to
join fellow EAs and:
 Campaign for issues of interest to all EAs.
 Raise the enrolled agent profile with legislative
decision-makers.
 Gain the practical knowledge of citizen advocacy
while having personal meetings with
Congressional members and staff.

NAEA earned its reputation for educational
excellence with the National Tax Practice Institute™
(NTPI®), where top tax professionals gain the
knowledge and confidence to represent their clients
before the IRS.
NTPI Levels 1, 2 and 3 are now offered at other
times of year outside of the conference.

Requirements




Attendees of the NAEA National Conference can
earn up to 24 CE credits or can watch recorded
National Conference sessions online to earn their
CE credits.
Free Webinars on hot topics offering IRS-approved
CE credit are available to members.
Just by reading the EA Journal magazine and taking
the CE test online, members can earn 2 to 4 CE
credits per issue (and fulfill the Ethics requirement) .

Associate members (not yet an EA) get the member
price on NAEA’s online moderated EA exam prep
course. The flexibility of self-study with the added
structure and support of a weekly call. Scholarships
are available.

Public Awareness
Spreading the word that EAs are the tax
professionals of choice—communicating the value
that enrolled agents bring to clients– is a primary
association goal. We’ve branded enrolled agents as

Educating America
The NAEA “Educating America” initiative has been
developed to raise awareness of the EA career
option among community college students across
the country. We’ve partnered with Gleim Publications
to develop a course that members and staff are
working to get into college curriculums.

an aggressive press release program, NAEA:
Promotes EAs through national sponsorship on
NPR.
Runs videos on American Airlines explaining the
qualifications an EA brings.

Taxpayers in search of an enrolled agent in their
area often use NAEA’s searchable “Find an EA”
directory, which is available online or through a
convenient toll-free number. Taxpayers are referred
to the directory by IRS and print and broadcast
media, resulting in new clients year-round for
members who opt to be listed.

NAEA works to keep close relations with state
affiliates and their chapters through:
 Semi-annual State Presidents Exchange (APEX)
meetings that facilitate the sharing of ideas and
experiences among state leaders.
 NAEA has distributed over $40,000 in stipends to
state affiliate leaders to help augment travel
expenses for NAEA APEX meetings.
