English Math Science PE Health/Contemporary World Affairs One Elective Planning Notes: English • English Options • English 9 or • English 9 Advanced o You must earn A’s in English 8 to take Advanced next year • If you are an ELD student, select the next level of ELD o You will have 2 periods of English daily (No elective) o When you enter your classes in Q Portal, select both semesters of ELD Writing and both semesters of ELD Com o ie: ELD Writing 3A, ELD Writing 3B, ELD Com 3A, ELD Com 3B Planning Notes: Math • Math Progression - (Must be taken in the order listed) Intro to Algebra A-Intro to Algebra B (summer before 9th only) ↓ Algebra 1A-Algebra 1B ↓ Geometry 1-Geometry 2 ↓ Algebra 2A-Algebra 2B • If earning an A or B in 8th grade Math, select the next Math level from the list above. • If earning a C or lower in 8th grade Math, we recommend you repeat your current math level in 9th grade Science • Biology • 9th graders generally take Biology • Enter both Biology 1 and Biology 2 when selecting your classes in your Q Portal • Your Science class may be changed by your counselor, depending on your academic performance Planning Notes: PE • PE courses available • PE 9-1/PE 9-2 • Marching Band (Zero period; first semester only) • Sports (Including Dance) o You may not enter a sport in your Q Portal. Planning Notes: Health • Health and is a required 1 semester class for 9th graders which you will take with Contemporary World Affairs (CWA), a 1 semester History elective • Enter both classes into your Q Portal: Health and Contemporary World Affairs Academic Elective Options • Foreign Language You must choose an alternate for your elective and write it on BOTH Registration Forms! • To enroll in a foreign language students must earn a “C” or better in 8th grade English • Visual and Performing Art • Career prep Reminders: Choosing Classes • Don’t forget to write your FIRST and ALTERNATE choice electives on your Registration forms • Your counselor may change your course selections based on your grades from 8th grade, test scores and teacher recommendations • BE AWARE!
