Calculate how many Kilowatts of electricity your household uses each week. Order the appliances from smallest to largest electrical consumption and show your findings as a properly labelled chart. Mr Anjari has an information sheet that will help you. 15 points *Get descriptive! Go to your favourite outdoor space. If you don’t have one, the go to the woods, or the beach. Sit and listen. Use all your senses to enjoy the place. Draw the place if you like, or take a picture/film of it. Write creatively and descriptively about your space. Alternatively, you may decide to ‘perform’ your writing and make a film. *Keep an Eco Diary Keep a log of all the things you do over the course of 1 week that have an impact on the environment (eg, using electricity, driving to school, eating out of season food, throwing something away, running water while you brush your teeth…). *No Energy Day Have a day when you try to use no energy except your own . Will you go fishing for your lunch Fabulous Fibannacci Find 3 examples of the Fibannacci series from nature and bring them into school to show us. P 3D Shapes You will need a large number of long and straight sticks, and some string or old shoelaces, for this activity. The more sticks that the you have the better. Hazel would work well. *Bird table data Do you feed the birds at home? If you do, sit quietly for an hour and observe the visitors to your bird table. Identify the birds which visit. Record how many different species visit, how many of each species visit and which type of food they seem to enjoy the most. Present your data in an attractive way. You could use the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds website to help you (RSPB). Take photographs fo each one and use them to show how and why they fit Fibannacci patterns. Create 3D shapes made from your sticks. What different shapes can you make? Which would be the best for a den? Find your own way to record your work. Write a diary of your day, which includes all the things you did. Include a conclusion about your day and how much you enjoyed it. Did you learn anything or did anything surprise you? Draw your favourite and use colour so someone else could identify it. Flower Power Go out on a walk and collect 15 different flowers. Press them and then stick them on some paper. Time Lapse Make a time lapse film on your iPod/iPad of something growing or decaying. There are lots of free apps that can do this, eg, iMotion HD. *Landscape Art Plein air Design an eco house. Find out about the artwork of Andy Goldsworthy. Make your own Andy Goldsworthy inspired piece of art. Record each step using a camera. Take a picture of the finished thing. Go into the landscape and draw or paint a picturesque scene in an impressionistic style. P Camouflage Get camouflaged, paint your face, stick twigs in your hair and blend in with the environment. Have someone take a picture of you when you are ‘blending in’. P Make a bird table or a nesting box After making it, put it ‘in situ’. Find out about the best place to site it. Find out all about building and designing eco houses. Design your own eco house and label it with its energy saving features and sustainable materials. Double your points by making a detailed scale model of your eco house. P 50 things to do before you’re 11 3/4 or P Make a Den or a Bird Hide Find a great space to make a den or a bird hide.
