Lem Tucker Journalism Scholarship: The scholarship provides eight semesters of undergraduate tuition
to an entering freshman. The scholarship honors the late Lemuel Tucker, an African-American and CMU
alumnus who made enormous contributions to journalism, by promoting the participation and success
of minorities in print and electronic media, as well as general excellence in the practice of journalism.

Coleman A. Young Foundation Scholarship
The CAYF scholarship is valued at up to $20,000 ($5,000 per year). Recipients receive support services
through the CAYF mentoring program to help ensure successful college completion.

Community Foundation of Southeast Michigan
Eligibility: All high school students in southeast Michigan are encouraged to submit an application for
scholarship funds. The Community Foundation manages more than 20 scholarship funds directly through a
single-step online application process. Every student in southeast Michigan is eligible for at least one of the
scholarship funds, but many are eligible for multiple funds.

Dream US Scholarship
Criteria: High school seniors/graduates who will be attending college for the first time.

ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Math and Science Scholarship
Each year, a total of four scholarships will be awarded. Targeting African American and Hispanic
students, two male and two female awardees will be given $5,000 each. The scholarship will be paid to
the university of the student’s choice and can be applied to tuition and related expenses for the
upcoming collegiate year.
Eligibility:







Identify as African-American or Hispanic
Attend a school in a Council of Great City Schools district (see link below)
Be completing their senior year of high school
Have been accepted to a four year university for full-time enrollment
Be pursuing a science, technology, engineering or mathematics degree
Demonstrate academic achievement in high school, leadership skills and/or community
service in the area of science, technology, engineering or mathematics
Have an unweighted GPA of at least 3.0

Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship Award
The Jackie Robinson Foundation provides a multi-faceted experience designed to not only address the
financial needs of minority students who aspire to attend college but also to guide them through the process

Microsoft BAM Scholarship
Blacks at Microsoft (BAM) is a company-sponsored employee network dedicated to supporting the
continued growth and development of black employees at Microsoft Corporation. This year, BAM will
award two US$5,000 scholarships to outstanding high-school seniors who are interested in pursuing
careers in technology. The scholarships are renewable, so winners who continue to meet the criteria can
receive an annual $5,000 award for up to four years.
Eligibility:







Be a high-school senior of African descent (for example, African American, African, or Ethiopian).
Plan to attend a four-year college or university in the fall of the year following high-school
graduation.
Plan to pursue a bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, computer information systems,
or select business programs (such as finance, business administration, or marketing).
Demonstrate a passion for technology.
Demonstrate leadership at school or in the community.
Have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher.

Ernest G. & Phyllis C. Green MSU Black Alumni Scholarship in Social Science

Terry Braverman Excellence in Sports Broadcasting Scholarship
Eligibility: Must be a graduate of a Michigan high school, and must major in Communications and Arts with a
focus in journalism or telecommunications with plans of becoming an on-air sports broadcaster with
excellent oral communication skills.

William Carr MSU Black Alumni Scholarship
Criteria: Must be a freshman with a minimum 3.0 high school GPA. Must attend at least half-time and

National Association of Black Suppliers Scholarship:
The NABS Scholarship is a stipend

Presidential Scholar Award
Full Tuition for four years
Awarded to entering freshman with a high school GPA of 3.90 or higher and an ACT composite score of

Distinguished Scholar Award
$20,000 for four years ($5,000 per year)
Awarded to entering freshman with a high school GPA of 3.80-3.89 and an ACT composite score of 27 or
higher OR high school GPA of 3.90 or higher and an ACT composite score of 27-30.
Talented Scholar Award
$12,000 for four years ($3,000 per year)
Awarded to entering freshman with a high school GPA of 3.70-3.79 and an ACT composite score of 27 or
higher, OR with a high school GPA of 3.80 or higher and an ACT composite score equal to 25 or 26.
Academic Achievement Award
$8,000 for four years ($2,000 per year)
Awarded to entering freshman with a high school GPA of 3.50 or higher and an ACT composite score of

University Recognition Award
$6,000 for four years ($1,500 per year)
Awarded to entering freshman with a high school GPA of 3.40-3.49 and an ACT composite score of 23 or
higher, OR with a 3.40 or higher high school GPA and ACT composite score equal to 23.
Geographic Region Award
$8,000 for four years ($2,000 per year)
Awarded to entering freshman with a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher residing in Michigan counties
outside of Macomb, Oakland or Wayne who wish to live on campus. Recipients must live in university
housing.
Depending on need level established by completing the FAFSA:
Housing Grant
Up to $20,000 for four years ($5,000 per year)
Awarded to students with a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher and an ACT composite score of 20 or
higher. Recipients must live in on-campus housing and have full on-campus housing charges not
covered by another housing award.
Academic Grant
Up to $20,000 for four years ($5,000 per year)
Awarded to students with a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher and an ACT composite score of 20 or higher
100% Tuition Grant for Four Years
Covers up to 100 percent of tuition after gift aid and the expected family contribution (EFC)
ODESSA N. MERRILL SCHOLARSHIP: The perspective candidate must be entering a four
year College or University or be currently attending an accredited four year College or
University.
Requirements:







Grade point average: 3.0
Must demonstrate financial need and/or Academic excellence.
Must provide a letter of acceptance from the School the candidate will be attending.
Must be able to commit one year internship with Amethyst Health, Inc.
Must adhere to the corporations policies and procedures at all times including Dress
Code (no jeans or gym shoes, professionally dressed at all times).
The hours of operations are Mon-Fri 9 a.m.-5 p.m. (exceptions are: fund-raisers and
other corporation’s events).
Scholarship amount: $2,000.
Rosa Parks Scholarship
Award: $2,000 non-renewable
Eligibility: Minimum 2.5 GPA, selected on the basis of scholarship, leadership, financial need and dedication
to civil rights

A maximum of $2,000 in the form of direct payment to the university or college of choice. The student
must have a minimum 2.5 GPA, have attended a Wayne County area high school, must demonstrate a
hardship, which could otherwise prevent the student from attending college and must attend college
full-time beginning with the Fall semester of 2014.

Saginaw Valley State University: Scholarships
President’s Scholarship-$38,000
Tuition and mandatory fees every year for four years (up to 136 credit hours). You will be invited to
interview for this competitive scholarship if you are currently ranked first or second in your class and
have a 24 or better ACT, or currently have a 3.70 or better cumulative GPA and a minimum ACT
composite of 28.
Founder’s Scholarship-$19,000
Half tuition and mandatory fees every year for four years (up to 136 credit hours). If you currently have
a 3.6 or better cumulative GPA and a minimum ACT composite of 26 you will be invited to apply for this
competitive scholarship.
Dean’s Scholarship-$12,000
$3,000 every year for four years. If you currently have a 3.00 or better cumulative GPA and a minimum
ACT composite of 24 you will be invited to apply for this competitive scholarship.
Cardinal Scholarship-$8,000
$2,000 every year for four years. If you currently have a 3.00 or better cumulative GPA and a minimum
ACT composite of 22, you will be invited to apply for this competitive scholarship.

Southern Methodist University: The Hunt Leadership Scholarship
Eligibility:

Thurgood Marshall College Fund Scholarships
TMCF are merit-based scholarships to students seeking financial assistance to further and complete
their education. Awards are made each semester and are based on a verification process designed to
ensure that academic expectations are being met and that there is unmet financial need.
Eligibility:

*Must apply for financial aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
*Must attend on of the 47 TMCF Member Schools
*Must demonstrate leadership qualities and complete hours of community service

UNCF Scholarships- UNCF manages various scholarship programs and each program has its own
eligibility criteria, open/close dates and required documentation. To apply for a UNCF scholarship, you
must apply through the on-line application process. As many of the UNCF scholarships require that the
scholarship recipient apply for Federal Student Aid, it is recommended that applicants complete the
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Must apply online. Go to
