Apply the nursing process in providing care for ้postpartum women both normal and abnormal cases • Provide care for newborn who stays with the mother after birth • Provide instruction for the mothers about postpartum self-care and infant care as well as family planning services Specific Objectives 1. Assess mothers’ problems and needs, plan and provide care as well as evaluate the outcome of nursing care. 2. Provide instruction for mothers about correct postpartum self-care and infant care, family planning, and postpartum medical check-up 3. Prepare postpartum mothers and medical equipment for appropriate obstetric examination and treatments 4. Prepare and provide care for the mother with cesarean birth and the mother with abdominal tubal resection 5. Provide advice for breastfeeding initiation and breastfeeding problem solving Specific Objectives (cont.) 6. Assess and identify Nursing diagnoses of the women with complications during pregnancy, intrapartum, and postpartum periods, as well as provide nursing care and evaluate outcomes. 7. Gain experience from study visits to various obstetric and gynecological care facilities. Details of Practice activities 1. Practice at postpartum wards OB 2 & OB 3 at University (Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai) Hospital Postpartum Ward & Lactation Clinic at Health Promotion Hospital at Family planning (OPD 5) & U/S (OPD 4) , Uni. Signature in the time-in time-out logbook kept in front of the delivery room. 2. Read the assignment board one more time to ensure your understanding of responsibilities 3. Visit the mother and infant assigned for your care 4. Study reports on mother and infant assigned for your car as well as Kardex to assure the various nursing cares given to the patient are in line with the physician’s order 6. Plan additional nursing interventions or improve nursing plan when the woman has further problems 7.
