College of Business Events & Student Organization Activities for Fall 2014
The College of Business (COB) Networking Event
We will have a networking event Thursday, September 25, from 3:00 - 5:00 PM, in Garrett Hall
for students, faculty, and a group of area business friends.
The College of Business (COB) Business Perspectives Week
Each year the College of Business devotes a selected part of a semester to foster interactions
with business leaders and students in order to provide them with additional real-world business
experiences beyond what is covered in their classes. This year, Business Perspectives Week will
be in Garrett Hall during the week of October 13-16. If you need further information, please
contact the Dean's office in the College of Business at 985-549-2258.
Special Keynote Address for Business Perspectives Week
Rob Dugas, the VP of Supply Chain for Chick-fil-A is coming as a part of Business Perspectives
Week on Tuesday, Oct 14. He will do a main presentation in Garrett 14 at 3:30 PM.
The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM)
The SHRM is the largest professional association in the world devoted exclusively to Human
Resource Management, and is comprised of HR professionals, academics, and business leaders.
The Southeastern Louisiana University SHRM chapter is one of over 300 student chapters
nationwide, and is sponsored by the Northshore Region Human Resource Association, a chapter
of human resource professionals. When you join SHRM, you not only get the chance to network
with local professionals but you also get access to local job opportunities and discounts on
regional and national membership.
Meetings Dates for Fall 2014

October 9th at 3:30pm, room 34
November 6th at 3:30pm, room 34
Membership Dues: Membership is $10/semester for local dues and $35/year for national dues.
T-shirts are optional and are $10.

The Phi Beta Lambda (PBL)
The PBL is the oldest and largest national organization for students preparing for careers in
business leadership. We meet every other Tuesday to discuss current business topics with other
Southeastern student and listen to knowledgeable business professionals in the area. Our
organization is open to anyone with an interest in business, regardless of major.
Meeting Dates for Fall 2014: September 9th, September 23rd, October 7th, October 21st,
November 4th, November 18th, and December 2nd at 5:30PM in Garrett 37.
Membership Dues: Academic year (both Fall and Spring) dues are $35. This covers national,
state and local fees.

Financial Management Association (FMA)
The FMA is an international organization whose mission is to broaden the common interests
between academicians and practitioners; provide opportunities for professional interaction
between and among academicians, practitioners, and students; and to enhance the quality of
education in finance.
FMA meeting times: Every Tuesday at 5:00pm in the Bloomberg Lab
Cost of membership: Local Chapter is free, National/international Chapter is $30, National
Honor Society is $15.
Activities: Stock portfolio competition, Field Trip to NYC in November to meet with Goldman
Sachs, Auriga USA, Bloomberg Headquarters, CitiGroup Credit Desk.

The National Association of Black Accountants (NABA), Inc.
The mission of NABA, Inc. is to address the professional needs of its members and to build
leaders that shape the future of the accounting and finance profession with an unfaltering
commitment to inspire the same in their successors.
A group of students from our chapter will be attending the annual 2014 NABA Southern Region
Student Conference on September 25 - September 27 in Atlanta, GA. The conference will
feature a host of tools geared towards providing essential professional and career information
to attendees. One of the highlights of the conference is on-site interviews with notable
accounting firms, such as the Big Four, Grant Thornton, and McGladrey. Former members of
our student chapter have received job offers from employers featured at the conference. As a
result, they were able to successfully transition to a lucrative, accounting career upon
graduation.

Beta Alpha Psi (BAP)
The BAP is the national accounting honorary and professional fraternity. The purposes of the
organization are (a) to encourage overall academic achievement and specifically the
achievement of high standards in the field of accounting; (b) to sponsor professional
development programs for students and faculty of the Department of Accounting; and (c) to
promote, through fraternal activities, the association of accounting students and professional
accountants. Beta Alpha Psi is an integral part of the instructional program in accounting.
Please be aware that meetings are for members and invited pledges only. Initial dues for
pledges:$110, Member dues: $55. To be initiated: Must meet professional and service hour
