Attention-Getter- Attention-getter type- Who are you? You are you. Who am I? I am me. Everyone here is different and have their own stories. Today, I’m going to tell you about me and my story. B. Short background information-(full name; nickname; age/grade; birthplace; siblings, etc.) First of all, my full name is Gilia Miliani Brede. People usually have a hard time saying my name, so some people call me Lia, to make it easier for them. I’m 14 and a freshman in Kamehameha. I was born and raised on Kauai with my maternal grandparents and 3 siblings, all sisters. I always wished I had a brother, younger or older, doesn’t matter. On Kauai I live in Wainiha on the north shore, but in school I’m a boarder in Kapuaiwa dorm. II. Body (main points and interesting facts or experiences about yourself using the visual aide) A. Main point(s) #1 What is well-known about you. a. Subpoint 1: Side One (He Hawai’i au mau a mau) Everyone here, I’m sure, is Hawaiian. As a Hawaiian, I think that keeping our culture alive is very important. If not kept alive, it will die. So as everyone knows, I love to dance hula. Hula is a way that we can tell stories of our culture. I’m also part of a hui call Hui Maka’ainana o Makana in Ke’e, Kaua’i. In the hui, we basically take care of the lo’i and clean the graveyard in Ke’e and sometimes do Hawaiian practice, like make poi and fishnets. b. Subpoint 2: Side Two (Past) – Growing up, I’ve lived in Anahola and Lihue and I was always with my family. Every weekend I would sleep over my uncle’s house, go beach, have parties, have fun in general. When my grandma and dad died, everything changed. c. Subpoint 3: Side Three (Present) – My sisters and I now live with our mom’s parents in Wainiha. We barely get to see my dad’s side of the family, and we don’t really get out much. We’re just always home and bored. My grandma applied me and my older sister for Kamehameha, we got in, now we’re here. I always have fun here. I have lots of friends, things to do, and work to think about. d. Subpoint 4: Side Four (Future) – I don’t really think of my future, but I want to go to college. I wanna go to UH, but I wanna go somewhere out of state, so I’m also thinking of Washington State University (WSU). I don’t know what I wanna do yet, but this college has a variety of stuff you can majors in. After college, I wanna live on Kauai because it’s where I grew up. B. Use your attention-getter/ closing statement handouts. You need more than just a “Pau,” or “Thank You,” for this conclusion. I could say I don’t like my life at times, but I’m glad I’m living this life. Doing the things I do, meeting the people I have met, making every mistake I’ve made so far. Now let me leave you with a quote, “Life is short, time is fast, no replay, no rewind so enjoy every moment you can.” Unknown Ms. Kauhane Speech Communications Revised 8/14µ
