7th Grade General Music Lesson Plans Week of March 17th, 2014 Weekly objectives: 1. Students will analyze and describe music from a variety of genres, as well as cultures, historical backgrounds, and write about the form, tempo, dynamics, texture, and instrumentation of selected pieces of music. 2. Students will continue to demonstrate knowledge of the origin, and musical characteristics of Celtic music by comparing and contrasting other styles of music to Celtic music. 3. Students will continue to master the G-scale on the guitar 4. Students will play a Celtic melody, “My Britches have Stitches” on the guitar using fingerpicking style. 5. Students will play the accompaniment chords of G, A, D for the Celtic Song “My Britches have Stitches.” 6. Students will compose a four measure melody using the notes of the G major scale and will write the melody on staff paper. 7. Students will play their original melody on the guitar. Activities to assist in achieving the objectives: 1. Celtic Music study a. Understand the use of key musical components such as chords, melody, bass line as the teacher uses these in context at all times b. Guitar practice – stations i. Practice playing single string melody “My Britches have Stitches” ii. Continue practice on playing the G major scale on the guitar iii. Practice Celtic rhythmic strumming technique with Am, F, G, D chords. c. Compose a four measure melody using the G major scale and 6/8 time signature i. Play the melody on the guitar
