


Treat semesters like the end of the year
Semester average determines whether or not
you pass the class and receive credit - .5 credit
per semester class
Semester average is on your permanent record
This is the grade that the colleges, employers,
etc. will see…
Semester Averaging – average of both
semesters to determine final credit- (failing
grade will still show on transcript)
1st 6 weeks grade: 75
2nd 6 weeks grade: 70
3rd 6 weeks grade: 70
(75+70+70)/3 = 72
Average: 72 x .80 = 57.6
Semester Exam 55 x .20 = 11
Add together to get semester average
57.6 + 11.0 = 68.6 Sem. Ave = 69
This would not be “bumped up” to a 70 –
a 69 is an F.

Generally recommended that students apply to 3 – 5
colleges.
Select a “dream” (reach) school that may be a stretch.
Select at least one ( safe) “sure thing”.
Select 2 – 3 schools in between.
A college should fit the student academically,
personally, and socially.
Be realistic!
Ideally, have all applications completed by
Thanksgiving



Early Decision – A binding commitment to
attend the college if you are accepted.
Early Action/Notification – Simply applying
early so you will receive acceptance notification
early – no commitment to attend.
Rolling Admission – Apply and usually receive
an admission decision within four to six weeks
