Evaluation of a Website The Internet is a wonderful resource. When you are doing research be careful, not all information is accurate. Remember, anyone can create a website. For a good evaluation checklist go to this site: http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/TeachingLib/Guides/Internet/EvalForm.pdf and http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/TeachingLib/Guides/Internet/Evaluate.html Try to select sources that offer as much of the following information as possible: Authors name Author's title or position Author's organizational affiliation Date of page creation or version Author's contact information Authority Accuracy Is the information reliable and error free? Are there spelling and information errors? Is there an author? Is the author qualified? An expert? If not a specific author, is it a reputable organization? Is there a link to information about the author or sponsor? Currency Objectivity Is the page dated? Does the information show a minimum of bias? If so, when was the last update? Is the page designed to sway opinion? How current are the links? Is there advertising on the page? For further evaluation of a website go to: www.alexa.com Cut and paste in the web address of the site you are evaluating.
